I remember sitting on my boat fishing in Suisun Bay & always seeing the Cowell Smokestack.
Easy to judge where everything else was by using that point as reference.
And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Ronald Reagan again.
Didn’t need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Our 2+2 Mustang ran great.
Those were the days.

Remember when you could leave your house to play with friends and just had to be home when the street lights came on? No cell phones, just outside play

Remember when people could disagree and still remain civil to each other.
Remember when you could go barefoot just about anywhere in the summer and the soles of your feet would cure up like leather? I remember catching tadpoles in Mitchell Creek (more water then), putting them in big pickle jars and watching them turn into little toads. We’d watch them rest on wood floats, then let them go back at the creek when they were big enough.

you could get ice cream at Thrifty’s for 25 cents??
It was 25 cents for a triple scoop at the Thrifty across from Heather Farms. We’d scrounge change from under Dad’s recliner, ride our bikes to the store, buy a triple scoop, and then play at the park. Fun times.

When you stopped for a fill-up, the attendant pumped your gas, checked your oil and washed your windshield. No tip!
Wow……I’ve done that. Easy to do at our very small town Mobil station. Kids today have no idea what you’re talking about.

Remember when the Walnut Festival mattered and the carnival was held at Civic Park. Also, remember when there was a baseball field (with lights) on Broadway, right across the street from the police station.

Clayton was a smaller town and you had to drive down Main Street past Skipolini’s and the eucalyptus grove to get to Marsh Creek Road? At least you can still drive down Main Street and go to Skipolini’s on your way to Marsh Creek Road.

Remember when…Oakhurst was fields, drinking out of hoses, baseball in the street and everyone’s moms scolded everyone’s kids…no one was safe, yet everyone was!
Remember when…you can ride in the back of the pickup’s bed.
Remember when seeing the Cowell Smokestack meant that you were almost home.

People dressed up for airline flights.
And they were served real food on the flight.
I remember that!

And they could smoke in-flight!
Yech.

Yes, I do! And I also remember when it was 10 cents at Thrifty in Rheem Valley in 1973.

This is the way still done in Central America.
I just liked jumping on the rubber hose to ring the bell!
