A Pittsburg man was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday after being convicted of aggravated possession of abusive sexual material , the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office said. In December of last year, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force launched an investigation into 32-year-old Ricardo Garcia Perez after discovering that he had been distributing child sexual abuse material online. The ICAC is a nationwide network of law enforcement agencies that work to investigate internet crimes against children. When investigators entered Perez’s Pittsburg residence in January to serve a search warrant, Perez tried to get rid of the digital evidence on an electronic device, according to prosecutors.
The District Attorney’s Office reviewed the evidence that ICAC investigators collected and charged Perez with a four-count felony complaint of possessing child sexual abuse material. Perez was convicted on April 16. He will begin serving his sentence immediately and is required to register for life as a sex offender upon release from prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
