I’ve read comments on here regarding Thrifty ice cream so I thought I’d try it. I bought a 1.5-quart container of rocky road, and guess what? There were no rocks to be found. I couldn’t believe it. There were a lot of marshmallows but not a single crunchy California almond.
LoL! Try ordering the “Walnut Shrimp” at Panda.
One time I got a to-go order, got home, and discovered no honey walnuts in my honey walnut prawns dish; however, it wasn’t from Panda, it was Yummy Hawaiian BBQ. They have good food, and it didn’t prevent me from returning; and I know I’ll be trying Thrifty’s Rocky Road again. Probably a one-time fluke.
Nah… it’s no mistake.
Downsizing and shrinkflation are everywhere, plus alot of people just don’t take any pride in their work.
It’s time for consumers to demand fair treatment or take your business elsewhere.

Happy Weekend, y’all. What’s the hottest outdoor temperature you’ve ever personally experienced, and where? We drove in Death Valley once, near Furnace Creek, in 115 F – In the 1970’s in Clayton, temp read 117 F and our car conked out as we pulled into the driveway.
I’ve been to Death Valley a couple of times, but it’s usually in November or December, when
the temps are in the high 70s. Have you been to Scotty’s Castle? It’s a must-see when visiting Death Valley, located in the Grapevine Mountains. The hottest temps I have experienced is
probably right here in Concord when it hit 112 on Labor Day a couple of years ago. The power went out around 3pm that day, and didn’t come back on until 1am.
Thanks for the heads-up on Scotty’s Castle, Dawg. It’s on our list now, although in my dotage I am a little shy of super hot weather. Maybe we’ll try it in November instead of June or July. We were there as a family fun thing after picking up our college student in SoCal; amazing, beautiful location, but temps were still way, way up in the middle of the night.
119F in our backyard in Clayton. It was during one of those relentless heatwaves a few years ago. Played golf in Arizona back in the 90’s and every day we played the course had paramedics driving around giving players water and checking for heat related illnesses. Might of been more than 119F but I don’t recall.

118F driving through the Nevada desert in the 70s.Thank goodness our parent’s car had AC.
Tucson in late May or early 1974. Don’t recall which but getting on the plane to return to Seattle it was quite blistering hot. But Arizona is a culture of going from one AC cooled place to another in your AC cooled car. However the two months I had been their for music gig the weather had been quite moderate.

Just came back from some grocery shopping and outside felt quite nice. I don’t know if it will really reach the forecasted temp for today. But I do prefer warmer weather over cold. That’s part of why I moved here.
One thermometer said it was 120, another said 117. This was in the Phoenix area, and a couple years ago.

I’ve experienced all the highest temps in Contra Costa for over a half century but the hottest I ever felt was in Memphis Tenn. @ 97° that old adage “It’s not the heat it’s the humidity”
It’s true.
Dr…. was playing golf in Kentucky – 90 degrees with almost 100% humidity… the fairway was fog and they had huge fans trying to blow the fairways a bit drier because they were rotting from so much humidity… took your breath away

Yesterday I heard a radio advertisement from the WC chamber of commerce plugging the Art & Wine festival this weekend being moved from Heather Farm to Civic Park downtown. He stated this was a great move because now people can take BART and ride the shuttle to the park.
There are a few problems with this move. First local residents don’t take BART on purpose, and second, the prior location was much larger and had way more parking.
So the real reason is either:
1-They are naive enough to think young families want to experience the vibrant culture, safety, and cleanliness of BART.
2-They cancelled the Walnut Festival last year for fear of violence, so perhaps they feel it’s safer to hold this event directly across from the police station.
Either way, this was an ill-conceived decision.
It was cancelled in 2024 due to lack of volunteers. It’s being moved this year to Civic Park due to construction of a new aquatics center at Heather Farm Park.
The “lack of volunteers” narrative is about as plausible as, “Sorry dear, we can’t get married this weekend because I have to wax my truck”.
They certainly could have come up with a more reasonable excuse.
Walnut Creek is but a shadow of what it was in late 1960s and early 1970s.
Laid back, the cruise, walnut festival and no parking meters . . . .
