A driver was cited after hitting 167 mph in a 70 zone, while passing a CHP officer earlier this month. The suspect, who was driving a Porche, also had no insurance. No injuries were reported, but the reckless stunt comes with a $2,700+ fine and possible license suspension. CHP officials say there’s never a safe reason to drive at triple-digit speeds, calling the incident a recipe for disaster.
At 167 MPH, California Roads Turn Into A Game of “Will This Pothole Ruin My Entire Existence?”

167 in a 70 zone is a FELONY. No Bail for you!!!
its not this is Califonia
If only… It is a may take (into custody) misdemeanor violation. If, as result of a collision, there was an injury or death it could be charged as a felony but there would still be a bail. Bail is a constitutional requirement and goes along with the presumption of innocence.
They can afford a Porche but had no insurance. It is possible to rent time on a race track so no one else gets hurt. There are schools there to teach people how to handle a car at high speeds as well as other considerations about. equipment required to drive at high speeds such as what speed the tires are rated. Above that rating the tires will fail and a crash ensues.
BTW where did this occur so I can avoid their temptations?
Agree, however, the tires may have been OK at that speed. Until Bridgestone stopped making the tires in the size to fit my Mazda 3, I had tires rated for 186MPH on it, a car that would do around 125-130. I bought them for their grip, since I knew I couldn’t get close to their rated speed. I bought the tires (4 different sets as I recall) at Costco.
One can’t build up that much speed on a bicycle.
167 MPH…. No insurance…. Take the car away and crush it.
agreed 100%
The second degree ya turd.
covered porche? wraparound porche? back porche or front porche?
Try I-5
Impound the vehicle for 90 days in addition to whatever else …… $90 / day +/- X 90 days = $8,100.00 … that’s got to sting a bit
if he was going 167mph he should’ve just kept going.
Porche Joke:
What’s the difference between a Porche and a porcupine?
Answer:
The porcupine has the pricks on the outside!
best joke of the day🤣
He was probably attempting to get away from the finance company demanding the second month’s payment.
Okay , 167 seems excessive even to me. 🤷♂️
In the summer of 2015 I went 167 MPH on Ygnacio Valley Rd near Crystal ranch rd on a Kawasaki ZX6.It was 2 am and nobody noticed.
167 mph = 244.93 feet per second
… in the early ’70’s I was going “fast” in the vacant vacant desert – a Pantera came up from behind and passed me like I was standing still & was gone in 2 seconds … true story
