TODAY’S QUESTION: The CHP has rolled out new specially marked patrol vehicles designed to catch more reckless drivers. Their subtle paint colors and minimal external markings make them less conspicuous, allowing officers to monitor and identify dangerous driving behaviors without immediate detection. What’s your opinion on these new vehicles?
Good! from what we’ve seen so far has been great getting the Mario kart freeway racers off the freeway! Need more saturation on Hwy 4 from Brentwood to Concord though
The CHP had a media campaign about the new cars, specifically targeting aggressive drivers. During the last month, I’ve seen about 20 of these cars around the state. They all pulled over vehicles that were speeding moderately, and I witnessed no aggressive driving patterns from the cars before they were pulled over. I’m not sure what the CHP media campaign and what the cars are actually being used for are in alignment. It’s just another way to catch speeders.
Just to be clear, you have witnessed 20 cars in the state of California get pulled over by the new CHP vehicles and none of the ‘em were aggressive. And you saw nothing out of the ordinary with those cars before
they were pulled over. Interesting ….
yeah, I don’t think you are being quite honest. Sorry dude. I have only seen one of them actively pull someone over and that yahoo had passed me on the shoulder of hwy 24.
as for the new cruisers, AWESOME! I love them.
anyone looking for police is already looking at the rims.
If your speeding and waiting to be able to identify the rims to confirm, your WAY to late!
you’re obviously not a speeder, or a least not a very good one.
You get a good view of the rims from the rearview mirror do you?
you think people drive looking behind them? i hope you’re looking through the front windshield every now and then.
Bad $%*& !!!
🙂
The idea of blending in with traffic is nothing new. The CHP have used all white vehicles since the 80s, and began using grey In the 90s. In the past, they used Mustang’s, and Camaro’s.
They use airplanes and fly at high altitudes with the sun behind them, so they cannot be seen from the ground, and use a timing device to measure how fast a vehicle is going.
Sneaky little devils, aren’t they?
If you aren’t driving like a fool, then you have nothing to worry about. Back in my youth, when I was driving like a fool, I would look in my rearview mirror, because even in an unmarked car, I could see the shotgun sticking up through the CHP’s windshield.
How does that timing device work?
In California, it is illegal to use a Speed Trap to catch speeders, and the definition of Speed Trap is where a vehicle’s speed is determined by how much time the vehicle takes to pass two points.
Not sure if its still done – but CHP helicopters used to time vehicles passing from one point painted on the highway to another
That sure sounds like a Speed Trap.
There are no such thing as speed traps for those that obey the laws and drive the speed limit.
If you watch the right shoulder you’ll see a white perpendicular line every mile. The helicopters can use that to figure out a car’s speed.
I was thinking of radar, so I should have said a measuring device.
It seems in California everything is illegal except crime itself!
I like them.
less markings the better.
i really like the YouTube show “Fridays with Frank”.
He is traffic enforcement in Arizona and his car
looks nothing like a police car until he turns on
his emergency lights.
Nice they could afford them. Probably money from all the DUI checkpoints.
looks like every other CHP cruiser just under the Fiat name “sorry Stallantis”
Boo hiss! 🏎️
Entrapment
No, just going undercover doesn’t make it entrapment. But when I was homeported in Pearl Harbor, the Honolulu Police Department had unmarked muscle cars, and when they pulled next to someone, they would rev their engine. If the other guy punched it as soon as the light changed, HPD would pull them over for drag racing. Now, that was entrapment!
I’m one who is all for personal liberties, HOWEVER – when clowns choose to drive 167 mph on a freeway………that’s putting my life and many other lives at risk. Lock them up & impound the vehicles – and have a State referee inspect the vehicle, if they have tampered with a catalyst or SMOG system be sure to add the $15,000 fine to the total. Make anything over 120mph the same punishment as DRUNK DRIVING!!!
If they really wanted to blend in they’d be stylin’ on 24’s with limo tint.
