Pittsburg where you have to get home before dark because you know what happens when youre out late at night.
or maybe walnut creek full of soccer moms in debt driving escalades and bmw suv’s.
I lived there for 20 years. Last year, I went back for my cousin’s wedding and visit friends . The city is as bad as sf; the city pushes all the homeless out of downtown. The homeless are now over North Park and city heights area. Good luck finding street parking because one house have at least 3 cars and they don’t even park in the garage.
We’d moved to the Bay Area by the time I was in high school. Had we stayed in San Diego, I would’ve attended Mission Bay High in Pacific Beach section.
Same – lived there as adult and loved it and always thought I would move back. Went 2 weeks ago and sadly not what it used to be. Same CA deterioration.

I like small towns better than a large city. Just about any town in the gold country will do.
Places like Jackson, Sonora, Twain Harte, Murphys, or Old Lynch Town, (Placerville.)
Totally agree with you. I have been to all of them except Old Lynch. The others have visited several times. For years The Scandinavian Club with have a fall week end in The Gold Country, we stayed in different towns, Murhpy’s, Nevada City, etc. Starting in the late ninetie we would stay in Sheepranch (by Arnold) at the old Pioneer in, I think was the name. Such fun. We stopped going in 2005.

Clayton, where we’ve lived for almost 50 years. Other than Clayton, my first choice would be Pacific Grove and the surrounding area.

Fifty years ago I would have said my hometown of Concord. It was a place of community and shops and restaurants where people met and were friendly. When Clayton Road was two lanes bordered by grassy lots before being developed into businesses and houses, and most of the surrounding areas were rural.
I don’t have a favorite city in California anymore.
I am definitely feeling what you are preaching! I am 56 and grew up on Pennsylvania Blvd in the state streets. I remember the creek that is now buried under OSH and the vast open orchards. I felt the exact same way about Concord and now feel exactly the same way you do about California!

Not just one, but several one I lived in the others I have visited quite often. Benicia (lived there) Half Moon Bay, my girlfriend owned a boutique and lived out there, I would help her out at the Pumpkin Festival, spend a lot of time out there, sometimes with a date. Other cities or towns, Petaluma, Sonoma, Columbia, Tahoe City, several in Marin County, and of course San Francisco especially in the eighties when I would go in there almost every Friday meeting friends for drinks and at times dinner. I almost forgot Carmel and Monterey.

Absolutely NONE as long as the Greasehead Dictator Newscum controls this state he has destroyed everything everywhere!
Before him it would be the North counties but his reaches of Commie, Woke, Dei ,Tax on Tax, Green New Steal, gas taxes, letting PG&E shed the cost of burning entire towns and the death of human life and those cost put into our monthly PG&E rates! Because of him we pay for PG&E Legal fees that we incurred insufferable punishment with all his policies has destroyed everything in this state period and has in turn destroyed the places we would want to escape to including property insurance that cannot be secured nor obtained PERIOD. So the little towns that we went to for escape too are completely shuddered and destroyed due this f*ck stains policies so there is no going anywhere to enjoy anything anymore because his far reaching policies. They are deftly represented the further you venture to those places of peace beauty and quiet So no there is nowhere in this state thanks the POS he is and the POS’ s that vote him in or his kind this state is destroyed

Haters think those escalades and BMWs are financed. The slave mentality never changes. Enjoy your servitude.
San Diego. My hometown. Lived there as a kid and an adult and will always miss it.
