The UPS Customer Center at 1970 Olivera Rd. in Concord is closing on June 11.  Our friend “Man in Brown,” who worked for UPS, sums up what’s happening. “Just letting you know that the Concord UPS building will be closing June 11. All the routes out of there will be distributed to the Oakley, San Ramon and Oakland buildings. The drivers will drive their personal cars to their routes new buildings that morning (June 11) and be shuttled to the Concord building to pick up their UPS packages cars. When finished for the day, they will deliver their packages cars to their new building. UPS has already closed the Cordelia building.

I was told by my UPS driver (I work in shipping/receiving) that it’s being closed for renovation.

Ridiculous. But that location Has Not been a Customer center for (5 years?) UPS is very anti Retail.

“What can Brown Not DO for you ?”

UPS must not expecting much growth in this area. Will the Concord Naval Weapons Station land ever developed?
.
I found it interesting that they are having the regular route drivers move the trucks from Concord to their new home distribution centers. In thinking about it, this makes sense. The night of June 10 to 11 will be the last overnight shift of sorting and loading the delivery trucks. By mid-day on June 11th the Concord center will be empty of packages and delivery trucks.
.
Our part of north Walnut Creek has been serviced out of San Ramon for many years despite that we are much closer to the Concord center.

I took a driving job a long time ago because it was located in Concord but within a year or so, they closed that depot and forced us to Vallejo or Hayward. I remember how upset I was because I had a 5 minute commute. I feel the pain of the people who will now have to commute further now.
