City Of Concord Launches Major Repaving Work On Willow Pass Road

With the new sewer infrastructure now complete, the City of Concord began paving work on Willow Pass Road as part of the Willow Pass Repaving Safe Route to Transit (SR2T) Improvement Project. The paving work, which started today, is expected to continue through July. Earlier this week, utility covers—including valves, monuments, and manholes—were lowered in preparation for the repaving. Paving will be completed in two phases. The first phase will involve daytime work in the residential section between Port Chicago Highway and Landana Street. This segment will use a method called cold in-place recycling (CIR), which reuses the existing asphalt by mixing it with other materials and repaving it all in one operation. Work for this phase will begin at Willow Pass Road and Parkside Drive.

The second phase will focus on the downtown section from Galindo Street to Port Chicago Highway. This portion will use the traditional mill-and-fill paving method and will take place at night to minimize disruptions. Night paving is expected to begin in late June and continue into early July. After the paving work is complete, the contractor will raise utility structures back to grade and install new roadway striping. In addition, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) will be installed at Ashdale Drive, and the High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) at San Vincente will be upgraded. Construction for the full project is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2025, weather permitting.

This is long overdue. This rd has been in bad shape for years. Its about time.

Nice to hear there will be improvements, but if this is cold repaving, I have my doubts about the longevity and quality of the repairs.
We used cold patch in construction and it is not intended for long term repair.
I am still dodging “filled” potholes every day around this city.

Waste of money. Willow Pass is a truck route and too heavily traveled by commuters for that process to even be considered. It will look good at first but won’t last, lipstick on a pig is all it is.
