A federal judge sentenced an Antioch man to more than seven years in prison Tuesday for possessing an assault rifle he tried selling, the U.S. Department of Justice said.
Timothy Demetrius Jeffrey, 44, was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison following his March 12 conviction on two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup also sentenced Jeffrey to concurrent 24-month terms for violating the terms of his supervised release in two other federal cases.
On April 25, 2023, Jeffrey drove into a shopping plaza parking lot in Pittsburg, parked, and fled on foot from a pursuing police officer.
Jeffrey threw a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine and 19 rounds of ammunition over a fence behind the plaza before his arrest.
Jeffrey posted bond after his arrest but jumped bail. Law enforcement officers located Jeffrey at a relative’s home in Antioch on March 27, 2024.
After the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Jeffrey, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence, where deputies found an AR-style rifle with a magazine and 25 rounds of ammunition under a couch in the living room.
They also seized a cellphone used by Jeffrey containing multiple text messages in which Jeffrey attempted to sell the rifle.
Jeffrey was on federal supervised release following past felony convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm, escaping from custody, and conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Thank God it was Federal Offence charges!! Our Lame-A$$ DA would probably have sentenced him to 6 mos. of custody!! …. or less !?!
Pffft, who did the rifle assault hahahaha.
And what about the old second ammendment hmmmmm????/?
2A 2A 2A 2a!!!!1!!
If there is no threat of substantial incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior
.
Operative phrase here is, “felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition”
Too dumb to be free.
The sad thing is that many of you think that AR stands for assault rifle.
7 years in jail for possessing a gun that shouldn’t be illegal – that’s not justice.
You want to know what is even more sad?
The make and model of the firearm is immaterial and incidental to the fact the person arrested was not allowed to possess ANY firearm or ammunition because he is a convicted Felon.
I’m not going to shed a single tear over this asshat losing his 2nd amendment right and spending a significant amount of time in a Federal penitentiary. He earned it Boo Hoo for him.
Nothing immaterial about a seven year sentence for an AR-17. Do you think it would be seven years for a musket?
He’ll do more time for the “assault rifle” than for slinging drugs. Which do you think should be more severely punished?

I don’t know why yoyohop did not elaborate further but the AR stands for “ArmaLite Rifle”
Nothing wrong with educating folks, it’s a common misconception.
