When I was a little kid, about 9 or 10, a couple of power lines fell onto the sidewalk near our home, and left permanent burn holes in the concrete. I remember watching the sparks and
little flames until PG&E came and shut off the power. Kinda like giant sparklers.
A few years ago a line came down on this street and outside my house. After I saw the trucks and police to route traffic in the area I stepped out the door and they yelled at me to go back inside the house. I asked them that the line was still “live”? That because previously when a line came down and I reported it the support person on the phone told me it had already been reported and the line was shut off and thus not live.
I got fired from my job because I kept asking my customers whether they would prefer “Smoking” or “Non-smoking”. Apparently the correct terms are “Cremation” and “Burial”.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Watch out y’all and keep your elderly safe with parking lot dent repair scams. The scammers love the East Bay. Contra Costa County has had an influx of the ones getting exposure on the news. Recently, it was the necklace scam, with a couple driving up to an elderly woman and snatching up the woman’s real jewelry as they put on cheap costume jewelry.
The dent scams go a few different ways, but it’s usually a guy in a truck that parks behind your car and says you have some dents that he can take out for a fraction of what the body shops can. Indeed, the body shops are expensive, but at least the body shops fix things. The scammers say they are in the profession, but the won’t give you a card or a number. They say they have all the tools they need, and they do have tools in the back of their trucks, but they will only do a small portion of the job. They slap some plaster onto the dent and may tell you that it needs to cure. They say how it’s easy to get the right paint at the local auto parts store. They take your money, and you never see them again.
The worst variation of this scam is a full-on grift where they will damage your car in an open parking lot, usually not parking garage where there are cameras, and they find you with an AirTag later on in the day and they pursue the grift. Like the necklace scam, the dent scams make use of kids in the passenger seats to lower the guard of the mark.
I know there are a lot of good people in the county who are fine driving with a few dents in their car, but don’t mind helping a guy with a daughter in the car with a few bucks. They will demand $500 and up though. Still cheaper than the auto body shops, but they don’t really fix it and, often, they’re the ones that damaged the car in the first place.
