The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it. The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

QUESTION: Do you think “Safe & Sane” fireworks should be legal in Contra Costa County? (Safe & Sane include fountains, sparklers, smokeballs, snake-type fireworks, ground-spinning fireworks, pinwheels, most novelty fireworks, toytrick noisemakers, and some crackling items)

Talk about it.

NO – It is too much of a fire hazard in this area. My dogs don’t appreciate it either. I know there are people that have emotional issues regarding them too.

Yes, let’s celebrate the true meaning of our independence from British rule. It’s an American tradition, we’ve been celebrating the 4th with fireworks for over 200 years. When children are allowed to use safe fireworks under the supervision of an adult, they have the opportunity to learn what the fireworks are a symbol of. Fireworks symbolize not only our independence, they symbolize our freedom and patriotism. It can be a learning experience, children can learn to appreciate the sacrifice of the brave men and women who fought and died in foreign wars so we can have the freedom that we enjoy so much as Americans.

Only if a method could be devised that could be used to prevent the sale of them to stupid people who have zero common sense.

No, because what I’ve seen of the idiots around here they could manage to burn down a house given the most innocuous “safe and sane” firework.

No – there are too many arsonists and irresponsible wacky people out there that couldn’t light them safely …over the lake at Lone Tree Golf Course is ok, over the harbor at Martinez, Pittsburg, or Antioch ok…. too bad I like fireworks

Yes.

For your dogs, cats, whatevers, or yourselves that are triggered/bothered/unappreciative of the fireworks, sorry. People are way to soft and we as a society should not have to abide and stop doing stuff because you are triggered. Your triggers are not my responsibility.

Bring back the sparklers, the neighborhood fireworks. I think part of the reason we have stupid people setting fires is because we have restricted so much of it, people are trying to hide their actions. How about we provide a safe space for people to light off the sparklers, firecrackers, bottle rockets etc …

What,? If the homeless start most of our wildfires, lets blame a few grass fires on climate change and ignore the fact most wildfires are caused by arson!

probably not the best place to put fireworks there, Atticus….

Sadly, the irresponsible citizens among us have forced the Government to punish all of us.

Exactly!!!

Fireworks of all kinds should not be allowed.

I would say yes to legalizing fireworks (“safe and sane” is just one man’s definition, what is sane to me is different than what would be to others). These fireworks, in general, are to represent “the rocket’s red glare” and “bombs bursting in air.” Obviously, such fireworks should not be used where a hill can start on fire.

No. Anyone else remember the insane amount of fire calls last year in CCC on the 4th? Not to mention think of the home owner insurance crisis in our state because of all of the fires year after year.

Absolutely. Dublin is just as much of a “fire hazard” and seems to does just fine with safe and sane stuff. When did this county become such a bunch of p*ssies?
