On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Concord Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on Willow Pass Road near Galindo Street and Mt. Diablo Street. The checkpoint was active from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. During the operation, officers screened 573 vehicles, administered four field sobriety tests, and arrested two drivers for driving under the influence. This particular location was selected due to a documented history of DUI arrests and alcohol-related collisions. The checkpoint was part of Concord PD’s ongoing effort to prevent impaired driving, raise public awareness, and reduce traffic-related injuries and deaths. Impaired driving isn’t limited to alcohol. Marijuana, prescription medications, and certain over-the-counter drugs can all negatively impact a person’s ability to drive safely. The consequences of a DUI arrest can be severe, often exceeding $13,500 in fines and fees, along with license suspension, mandatory DUI education programs, and possible jail time. Concord Police remind the public to plan ahead by using a designated driver, calling a taxi or rideshare, or finding another safe way home. Impaired driving is never worth the risk. DUI checkpoints and high-visibility patrols will continue throughout the year, focusing on areas with a higher incidence of DUI-related incidents. These operations are supported by funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
