PG&E Commits $50M To Expand Relief For Overdue Bills

Pacific Gas and Electric customers who have fallen behind on their payments may be able to get some help paying their energy bills, the utility said this week. PG&E has committed a total of $50 million to new and existing financial assistance programs to give eligible customers with overdue bills a hand. The programs include PG&E’s new Match My Payment program and the Energy Assistance through Community Help program, which is already in place. The PG&E Match My Payment Program offers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 for qualifying low-to-moderate-income customers to pay past-due energy bills to prevent service disconnections.

Applicants must pay at least $50 toward their outstanding balance each time to receive matching funds. A minimum past due balance of $100 is required to apply. Qualifying customers may receive matching payments from PG&E for multiple-bill payments throughout the year up to $1,000. For example, a past-due customer can apply for support in June and continue the program in October if they fall behind on bills again. The program ends December 31. Customers may also be eligible for bill assistance through the PG&E REACH program, which provides income-eligible customers with a bill credit of up to $300 based on the past-due bill. Emergency assistance is available this year for customers with a disconnection notice. Income levels are lower than the PG&E Match My Payment Program. Qualifying customers who have already received a $300 grant from PG&E’s REACH program in 2025 are pre-qualified for up to $1,000 from PG&E’s Match My Payment Program, with a combined maximum benefit of up to $1,300 on a past due amount.

100%, that was LITERALLY what I was thinking. So corrupt.

Well that’s very noble of them….On the surface this seems like a good thing but they are only providing to the ones that fall behind other rate payers money “equity” Let’s try this one on for size…LOWER YOUR RATES! then people may not be so likely to fall behind! just my opinion. Matching funds my a$$.. that’s rate payers money.

Great, it’s always low income customers
Which means you have to make less than sf bay area minimum wage to qualify :/

28

The Truth actually is that PG&E is using money they’ve fleeced from rate payers to make themselves look good.

35

Well, they lost that game decades ago. They’d have to do a 180 to look halfway good.
Somebody needs To do a real deep dive into the relationship CPUC has with all utility providers.
Wages just keep going up everywhere, Bills go up more than enough to cover the wages… Retirees cannot keep this up, and some of us were just not raised to make welfare our first choice.

Pacific Gas and “EGAD” strikes again.
Never diminish the profits.

PG&E isn’t paying for this, we are.

100%

Welfare for the leaches…! But for those who cashed in their pocket-change piggy-bank to pay their PG&E – but now can’t afford to put groceries in their Fridge….you could just unplug it to save a few bucks on power……. But No. … that won’t work either, because their 4th or is it the 5th rate increase of the year will hit ~~~ and you saving electricity won’t make your bills go down a cent.

I guarantee this milk-fed gal get’s her PG&E discounted. This’ll curl your toes: (I had to open it in Incognito, for some reason)

This gal and her family are professionals in the welfare business— and I’d take a side bet she hasn’t peeled her own potatoes or cooked a meal from scratch since she discovered how much public assistance and tax write-offs you can get – per kid—AND let the kids do the heavy liftin’.

She has a couple/three money making websites and brags about hubby, Mr. Rodriguez, works full time, she works full time online, and TicToc, etc etc aren’t paying enough, and kids are wearing her out…
I see people like her and I think, damn….: “I’d like to let the air out of her..🎈.see if she’d fly.”

Why be responsible and pay your bills, just wait for a bailout. Jack that heater and air-conditioning up, no worries.

I always pay my bill in full and on time. Can I just get reliable service? My power went out a few times last week.

Good grief. You know who pays for all of this right? ALL OF US.

20

This may be paid by federal grants or programs not necessarily rate payers. I know some programs like rebates for insulation were paid that way. But if you know me, I’m not into cutting any slack for PG&E. What a dark history that company has and it seems like we’re still in the “wild west”.

“CPUC approved the fourth price hike this year after one in January, March, and a natural gas price increase earlier in September. In January’s price hike, some customers’ bills almost doubled”.

Such a well run company, bankrupt twice, perpetual rate increases and undergrounding
of medium voltage conductors,l which is little more than an expensive public relations
STUNT. For a second time state legislature democrats have proposed taking over pge.

Reportedly 2023 PG&E CEO compensation $1,400,000 salary and $11,000,000 in
stock awards. No clue what 2025 total dollar amount is . . . . . . .
.
California Public Utilities Commission, has five members, selected by the Governor and
approved by state Senate. From living many decades in CA, my description of CPUC
would not include putting, pge customers as their top priority.

On other words… a bailout.
.

Section 8 housing, WIC, SNAP, MediCal, Obama phones, matching funds for your PG$E so you can sit at home , shouldn’t the state also give free automobiles, insurance repairs and gas….where is personal responsibility and self-reliance ? Different generation, YES….self made no handoits
