ConFire Doing Prescribed Burn This Morning Near Walnut Creek

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will conduct a controlled burn Wednesday morning in Hunsaker Canyon near Walnut Creek/Lafayette. The 1-acre prescribed fire is part of the Lafayette-Walnut Creek Shaded Fuel Break project, which aims to reduce fuel loads, eliminate invasive plant species, and lower fire risks during red flag weather events. Crews will begin operating at 9 a.m. Some light smoke may be visible in nearby areas during the prescribed burn. If anyone in a household is sensitive to smoke, the district recommends keeping windows and doors closed and limiting outdoor activity during the operation. The fire district asked people who see smoke within the designated area Wednesday morning not to call 911.
