We are saddened to share the passing of longtime television news videographer Craig Cannon, a friend and contributor to Claycord.com whose work captured countless moments across the Bay Area. Craig passed away on June 2nd, 2025, shortly after relocating to Nevada with his wife to enjoy a well-earned retirement. For over 30 years, Craig was a familiar presence on the streets of the East Bay, camera in hand, chasing the truth and documenting the stories that shaped our communities. From his early days as a staffer at KTVN Reno to years spent freelancing from Yosemite to Tahoe, Craig was a seasoned stringer and one of the few to win three Bay Area Press Photographers Awards for breaking news coverage. He wasn’t just good, he was exceptional. Whether it was a fast-moving fire, a community event, or late-breaking crime scene, Craig was there—always calm, courteous, and focused. Beyond the camera, Craig was a kind and generous soul. He shared many photos with Claycord.com over the years, helping us bring important moments to light and contributing to the spirit of local news. His warmth, reliability, and easygoing nature made him a joy to work with and a friend to many. Above all, Craig was deeply devoted to his family. He loved his wife Susan and his son Anthony with all his heart, and often spoke proudly of their accomplishments and the life they built together. His family was his grounding force, his greatest joy, and the center of his world. Craig Cannon will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Services for Craig will be held on July 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at: St. Stephen Catholic Church – 1101 Keaveny Ct – Walnut Creek.

RIP so sad you just made it to retirement…can’t imagine my wife having to deal with that right after retirement.
Too often we hear of passing just after retiring ….. sad… did he have a long term illness? accident? 🙁
My father went the same way barely got to enjoy all that sacrifice and hardwork. It devastated my mom, being born in 1931 and a stay at home mom that never worked. They barely got to enjoy being empty nesters.
The family has been planning services long distance. All are welcome! Please follow directions on Craig Cannon’s facebook page to RSVP….if you can by 7/27/25. Thank you so much the Cannon Family.
Pour one out for Craig Cannon. 🍷
My deepest sympathy for his Wife, family , friend’s and long time reader’s of claycord. May you RIP.
Grateful for all he contributed to our lives in the Bay area. Prayers with his family.
