The first steps in a major overhaul of Heather Farm Park are now underway as crews drained the park’s pond to prepare for a sweeping redevelopment that will reshape the popular Walnut Creek destination. The project will eventually bring a new community center and a modern aquatic complex to replace the aging Clarke Swim Center and the existing community building, both built in the 1970s. Plans call for an 18‑lane competition pool, a family pool with a beach entry and splash features, and a multiuse community space designed to double as an emergency operations hub. Construction is expected to stretch over the next two years, with the new facilities projected to open in late 2027 or early 2028. For now, the drained pond and fenced-off work zones mark the visible start of what city leaders call a “once-in-a-generation” transformation of Heather Farm Park.

What happened to the catfish?
Hmmm, wonder how many skeletons they may find.
It’s already a homeless encampment. Whose idea was this? MODERNIZE THE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT if you must tear up the park.
The $76M gold plated city office build out and pool rehab…. a small portion of that could have been used to remove the eucalyptus tress near homes (gasoline trees per CCC Fire), repave YVR from San Miguel to the eastern city limit, and catch up on part of the many years of “deferred maintenance”.
What did they do with the turtles and fish?
RIP
Oh my God!!! they drained the duck s#!t! what will drunk people fall into now?
That is just the cement pond.
Let me know if they ever drain the real pond.
I left a alligator snapping turtle in there about 1968….back then the water was clear and there were lots of fish, frogs, muskrats and turtles but not many ducks & geese pissing the place up.
I’m sure it’s dead and gone but they do live as long as 100 years so…….. just curious.
They’ll be cutting down many mature trees also.
Industrialized nature. Urban development slaughter of natural unspoiled habitat for animals and wildlife.
I remember Heather Farms back around 1970, when it was only a big pond surrounded by fields and open space.
Will there be a Starbucks and McDonald’s there too?
We have enjoyed watching the river otters in the pond during our walks. Hoping the wildlife wasn’t sacrificed and won’t be sacrificed during this project.
I have done a few paintings of Heather Farms over the last 30 years. In the mid 90’s they destroyed a lot of its beauty. I did some paintings just two years ago at that pond. I can’t imagine they won’t destroy it in the process. Development or whatever they call it is rapidly destroying this area. Same thing happens in Concord regularly.
