A 29-year-old Concord man drowned near a boat ramp at Shasta Lake over the weekend, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Luis Cornejo-Paz was found dead after deputies responded around 1:20 p.m. Saturday to a possible drowning in the area of the Hirz Bay Public Boat Ramp at the lake in Northern California. Investigators determined that Cornejo-Paz was swimming about 30 to 40 feet offshore while towing an inflatable kayak with two people on board when he began struggling, called out for help and then went underwater, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Due to the murkiness of the water, people were not initially able to locate him, while the two people on the kayak were able to make their way safely to shore. Authorities found Cornejo-Paz about two and a half hours later in about 11 feet of water, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

come on people, wear a life vest even if you are a good swimmer. At least make it easy for the life guard to recover the body if you die in the water.
