The mother of a Napa toddler who died from a fentanyl poisoning last year has been charged with murder and child abuse, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said Monday. Both parents of Zayden Schultz, 3, were arrested on Friday. The boy’s mother, Belen Marie Shroyer, 42, was arrested on suspicion of murder and child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury or death, while his father, Timothy Schultz, 47, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury or death, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Schultz is being charged with child abuse, prosecutors said. On August 15, 2024, deputies went to a home in the 1600 block of Mary C Drive in Napa on report of a child that wasn’t breathing. The toddler was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Both parents were arraigned Monday and are next scheduled to appear in court on Friday, according to prosecutors. Shroyer is being held without bail and Schultz is being held on $1 million bail.
