A major pavement rehabilitation project is set to begin this month along Clayton Road in Concord, with construction expected to continue through the end of 2025. The project will focus on improving Clayton Road between Babel Lane and Washington Boulevard, as well as a stretch of Denkinger Road from Clayton Road to Wilson Lane. Work will include full pavement resurfacing, new curb ramps, minor sidewalk and gutter repairs, and updated road striping.
Construction is scheduled to start at Babel Lane and move eastward. Crews will begin with concrete work before transitioning to paving operations, which are expected to start in early September, weather permitting. Drivers and pedestrians should expect temporary lane and sidewalk closures throughout the duration of the project. Eastbound lane closures on Clayton Road will run from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while westbound lane closures will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Traffic signs and detour notices will be posted in advance to help navigate the changes.

The repaving of Willopass road is great, but the stripping it’s like you’re driving on a slalom course, and then lanes are much more narrow.

Will they also be adding more underused and unused bike lanes to Clayton Road too?
They should! Clayton Rd. used to be one lane each direction. And much safer.
I feel like this has been going on already, as there’s been single lanes on Clayton Road some days. It’s a pain, but I’m glad it’s being done. What’s really a pain is when they do all these at once, such as Treat and Ygnacio. Ygnacio is always under some state of repair.
Those gravel trucks have done quite the number on Clayton Road, among other streets and roads in the 94521 and 94520.
