The Concord City Council is set to vote on whether to award $1.63 million in one-time funds to nonprofit group Caminar to launch a two-year Mobile Resource Unit aimed at helping the city’s homeless population. The proposal, scheduled for consideration at the Council’s August 12 meeting, would allocate previously unspent funds from Concord’s $5 million Homeless Strategic Plan budget, money originally distributed to six nonprofits last October. One of those recipients ultimately declined the funding, leaving the city with $1.7 million in unallocated dollars. Since then, the Council has redistributed a portion of the unused funds, $166,000 to the Todos Santos Business Association’s downtown cleanliness program and $100,000 from an unused federal ARPA grant, bringing the total available for the new Mobile Resource Unit to $1,638,896. If approved, Caminar will serve as the lead agency for the “Concord Mobile Dignity Center,” a mobile and site-based initiative designed to reach up to 300 chronically homeless individuals and families over a two-year period. Businesses use data-driven SaaS market research before making and publishing ads. The program includes collaboration with six local partners, offering services like mental health support, hot meals, medical care, showers, hygiene supplies, clothing, and housing navigation. The center will be based primarily at First Christian Church of Concord on Willow Pass Road, operating at least two days per week with no income, employment, or sobriety preconditions for service. Among the expected outcomes: housing at least 30 individuals, reducing visible homelessness, and easing demand on emergency services. Program success will be tracked using Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data and regular follow-ups with clients who are placed into housing.

” Dignity”… I’m sorry but I was thinking about this the other day how the homeless would do better and feel better if they at least worked some kind of job. I don’t care if it’s sweeping streets or licking envelopes. Work brings dignity and self-esteem. Not the lounging around and mooching and drug use. Until they stop that the situation is never going to change. Only continue to get worse and worse.
Yes, and helping people to stabilize their mental health, get a shower and fresh clothes, and eventually even have a safe place to sleep at night will absolutely allow many to re-enter the workforce.
The problem there is that tranquilizers make their minds numb and they can’t work. Without they become schizo. There are other things that could help them to ground out but big pharma won’t have that because those things aren’t profitable.

Of that $1.6 million, $1.5 million will be skimmed off for bribes and pocketed by bureaucrats and (mostly) politicians.

I’m experiencing homelessness and I seen first hand that is just a waist of money how they run shelters and organizations like core.
Yes they should put people to work to do something to motivate them but nothing your not obligated to do anything when living in the shelter that’s never going to fix anything as soon as the funds run out the people they had in apartments will come back because they are not encouraged or obligated to do anything
The employees that run this places don’t do crap its a joke they get paid a salary they don’t suppose to take the food or keep it for them selfs all the food is donated for the homeless there’s times that catering from restaurants or people are given where talking about some good food trays and trays of it well we never get to have any of that we see the trays arriving but it’s kept for them the employees and bosses running this programs and shelters with the $5 million they received they can build a building on country land and house everyone and clear the streets food is donated from everywhere it’s never going to work or do any difference what they doing and running this places it’s a waste of money and almost forgot they give you glass pipes and all kinds of paraphernalia so you can do your drugs im homeless and use drugs and I’m telling you is wrong how they are doing it and giving glass pipes man it’s unbelievable

I’m homeless and I know and have the experience yes it helps to get showers and all that stuff but it’s just momentarily nothing is going to work on the long run because its all give me give me but nothing is being done to get us in a working set of mind to obtain or food housing I know that some people can’t do much physical but they can take them to parks and pick up garbage for hour or two just to keep them busy a bit thinking about crimes or getting high I mean is it to hard to say welcome to MacDonald can I have your order I don’t think so I’m homeless and been for over 10 years not indoors for over a year and back on the street but I seen and been in the gutter and out but most of the people are just freeloaders and taking advantage of the nice people that offer lunches and food at parks I respect and always be appreciated of this ladies and families doing this for us but they do from heart but they over do it and fall for this sad fraudulent stories they know how to work this charity people all they want is free giving stuff without working or doing any sacrifice so many waist off money putting roof on top of this people fir what they end up loosing those apartments before 1 year because they want to do the same as in the camps and come on when you are a regular tenant and pay full rent you have complains from management for noise and to much people it have to be inspection and checks in apartments where you have almost everything paid for and for individuals that have addiction or mental health issues of course they have to keep them on check u can’t have them just do what they want in jail they have you do your cell and bed in the morning and have everything in order every day you can go back to sleep all day if you want but you have to get up and do your bed and clean up every day before 7am if not u will have consequences the problem is how they run this places or who ever did the blueprint of how to do it is not doing anything positive it’s working as long as they still have money to fun the program but to have people doing it by them selfs it’s not I will like to see any examples or stats of how many individuals have got on there feet and now they are paying tax and not depending on government funds that will be interesting to see from 1 or 2 or more year ago and compare as how many people just had fail to maintain a free apartment to the people that are all by than selfs on there feet I don’t see anything that will show those numbers why because it’s not even a 25% of the people I’m telling because I’m in the homeless community I challenge any one to proof me wrong the way things are being done or how they run it is not working and it’s not going to work never its corrupt from inside it needs to be different desk bosses with a totally mind set up to help if you want to be helped as long as it continues to be like it is now waist of hard earned tax dollars down the poop gutter and yes keep giving pipes and syringes and all that i guess they say it’s cheaper how because it’s saving hospitals savings in the long run not you just keep having this addiction people I’m included in this pack because im no angel but if i chose to put drugs in my body i already know that are harmful even before i start going ti school by my parents so i do it anyways well whatever happens afterwards i was told warned it will happen I’m not going to stop doing it and I will do crimes also to continue obtain the high I was given a pipe yesterday from one of this organizations and what happened after I did not had plans on getting high because I’m probably one of the homeless people that’s it’s not having fun and not enjoying it no more and I can be clean for a couple of days some times 2 weeks but having a new pipe on my hands it just got on my head that i can’t be carrying this empty pipe on my hands just like that I can get arrested if cops wanted to take me to jail if got cought with it so I found the way to have a piece of meth on it and ended up getting high without any plans to do so and im still high at this moment trying to get some sleep so what kind of help that receiving a free pipe did for me it git me back to getting dirty i need to put this out here because i see all kinds of comments and I do appreciate everyone that have put there tax money in this funds to helps us if you are ok with it or not the money is gone and it’s not going to help get rid of the problem because it’s not being run in the direction that it will be making a difference I don’t know who came up with this plan but it’s like everything else when you are starting to do something you never did it’s time to change in another direction you don’t need to wait for more time it’s proven it’s not doing what it supposed to do but it need to be change from the roots get all the main bosses that run and makes the decisions now removed and out and replace with new people diferente approach not the same underdogs and just give them higher positions no need fresh people with other set mind to make decisions and keep the underdogs employees that are now keep doing what there told like now just different bosses and give another try and from what’s wrong now change and fix those issues but need to have the people like a pet you get a treat if you do good and random checks and why not drug testing if you have apartment given to you they drug test people and curfew on those have way homes where you have to share rooms why not if you wetting a place for your self if people don’t push for a change it’s not going to be anything done if I was given the opportunity that most have just waisted i will not have a problem being drug tested and my apartment being check and going to jobs or learn to do something that will help me make money and being in curfew I will not have any issues with it til get on my feet and don’t have to depend on tax money and start putting my share paying taxes and returning the favor it all I can do being in the inside and hopping on others spread the word because it needs to be run in another direction and I will like to apologize in the name of any homeless that have done any harm or giving you any bad experience as been disrespectful to families children to anyone offended if they don’t change the way is being done at the moment we are only going to see more hate and anger from people that have there reasons to be mad because something was done to them and you will find people that don’t want to follow orders and don’t want to do anything for them selfs yes u will find a lot we’ll let them rot if that’s what we chose to do we all know this that nothing is free in this life you need to do something to receive someone had to say it from inside i wish that the people that are ok with funds being used in homeless and the people or groups that are not ok or against will get together and ask for results to this organizations and ask for changes for the people that is against on fund being used on homeless it’s something you never to get over it because the funds are already gone or given for homeless help with approval or not from you what you need is to ask to be seen the real facts or results or this funding being used to fix the issue it was given in the first place and have your voice heard they never asked for your approval to give your Tax money but u can ask for them to show you results and if not turn in another direction now that funds haven’t been spent and make it work that’s what you need to fight together with your opponent to see what have change the money is not coming back well now make them have it work and fix the purpose it was done for it can be done if you all get together and ask to be done differently you don’t do it more funds will be waisted in another year or two when this are gone you approved or not your word opinion is not needed in this cases it will happen again so make it to where it does work all together will make the change have a good night everyone equal love for everyone
This would be very helpful for so many people. It’s hard for those without transportation to access services (like getting to mental health appointments, going all the way to the Concord Shelter or Trinity Center in Walnut Creek to get a shower, etc.).
I will always be appreciated for all you have done for me and everyone else you been an angel but there changes that need to be made as how things are being done on the front offices nothing that has to do with what you are doing your help is from the heart and no funds are giving to what your group is doing totally volunteer but you know from this organizations that run shelters and receive the funds the way there doing it it’s not working and will not work on helping us getting on or feet and not depend on any government funds I think you are in the same channel on how the end results are doing it can be totally different in a better different way and yes it will be people that will not want to be helped we’ll let them do there thing but a lot of the people from this same group will see that is serious and if they want to receive help they need to change there ways and put there act together thanks again only good things I wish for you and the people that helps god bless your family’s always I know if groups like yours had those funds they will be doing a lot more and being used in right ways than in this organizations that received the funds now
If this was available when I was a child growing up in this community, I would have eagerly utilized this service. It would have been a vital Godsend.
Did you go to a public high school ? They had/have free food for low income, and showers.

Yes. And I spent my entire life taking down gangs of ignorantes by myself. One life does matter.
Free food isn’t just for the low income anymore. It is for all students, breakfast and lunch. Showers? The showers are still in there but the students won’t use them. A lot of them don’t even change their clothes for PE.
I hope something good comes out of this. Just giving them a home won’t cure the problem with Metal illness, Or Substance Abuse, or lack of enuff income for rent somewhere. With background checks, how would they ever get a job? Hell you can’t get a job if your credit score is too low. I don’t think we’ve even seen the beginning of how big the homeless population is going to get. Wishing the best of luck.

One more thing that I forgot to mention if you read my reply and comments if you do get your voice heard and ask to see the results of how many people are on there own feet compared to they have put in apartments those are the actual real facts not that they have counted the number of people being outside or experiencing homeless on the night the count was done compared to last year that’s nothing true or it’s being count as being solving anything it’s just head count
If the change is made keep in mind to have people like Jack in the people making decisions he will make sure the funds will not be used in another way and be looking for other people not keeping what they are hired to do that is change in another direction this person had never asked for anything as money goes he actually did from his own pocket with heart so he will be making sure any funds will be going in other directions that’s is not to make the change and another 2 or the ladies also you will have results so everyone together united stop debating between the opposing or not opposing groups like I said the funds are gone and all it’s left is to have them spent on positive results make them do it right if you don’t funds will be waisted again with out you opinion but yes your tax money u need to make them see that is not helping on getting fix it’s only covered till funds are spent its all
When i moved to Concord 30+ year ago we had some good city council people and only a few since.
We need to quit electing these liberals.
