Did you know? Way back in 2001, In-N-Out Burger had plans to build a 3,160 square foot restaurant with a drive-thru in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Concord? Yes, we know, not near a freeway, but they still had plans. Obviously, it didn’t work out due to traffic concerns in the area of Washington Blvd. and Clayton Rd.
A few years after the CV shopping center plans, In-N-Out also wanted to build a restaurant in a planned shopping center (that would have also included Walmart) in North Concord, off Arnold Industrial (now where Lowe’s is located). Obviously, that didn’t work out either.
So, no In-N-Out. But we do have 11 Starbucks.

good burgers, don’t think they deserve the hype but the service people are above the rest so I go there (frys are terrible) but being polite is worth a little more than that.
Order the fries well done; they are much better IMHO.
The proper amount of silver did not pass into the hands of the appropriate local politicians.
Yeah, I remember.
Just another reason to hate Concord.
They strike down so many good businesses.
But they approve over priced, over rated Chic-Fil-A as if that’s not going to cause traffic…..
In-N-Out is an amazing burger chain and one of the few decent burgers to eat in the area.
Rethink your ridiculous ways, Concord!
🌍🤡
There’s plenty of room where the old Kmart used to be.
City had no problem opening up coffee shops though.
I once said that Clayton looked like “fast food city” to me when I drove through it years ago. Seems those chains do a lot of business there as they run spots on TV (or streaming) often but I would have to drive over from Martinez to try any of them. I also got rebuked back then for calling it “fast food city”. 😄
If that’s not political, don’t know what is.
The dirt site in front of Lowes was built for our In N Out. City of concord didn’t want to offend the transvestite bipoc communities by allowing a christian business to move in. I remember plain as day all the anti business moves this city has done over the years. This place could have been popping, instead you have a million crappy mexican food stores. Cool…🙄
The food is okay. The fries are awful, easily the worst of any place that sells fries. After the hype dies down, it just a fast food burger place that only sells a couple of items.
“Traffic concerns”, really ? ? ? starbucks at intersection of Clayton Rd. at Treat Blvd.
made a mess of traffic until it got figured out. Had to be careful of vehicles exiting
onto Clayton Rd. side, some would pull out across three lanes of traffic to get into
left turn lane, make a U turn to go west bound.
.
Rather strange city council would pass on a business that would generate so
much sales tax revenue.
Perhaps someone might want to look into . . . . .
