Two Drivers Trade Keys For Court Dates During Concord DUI Patrol

Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI during a Concord Police Department enforcement operation on August 8, 2025. Police say those charged with DUI face steep consequences, including an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license. Authorities remind the public that impaired driving isn’t limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect the ability to drive safely. Concord Police plan to hold additional DUI enforcement patrols throughout the year in an effort to keep local roads safe. The August 8 patrol was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Why do the CPD need a grant to do their job? Are they incapable of functioning as a
law enforcement agency without the extra help?

Grants help to pay for the overtime and for any administrative fees.

Apparently, the consequences are NOT that steep because people keep driving impaired. At some point we need to decide that repeat criminals just do not get to live in a society they shun. And it should not cost us millions of dollars to deal with them.

Dawg…..I totally agree with you why should they have to have grants to do these DUI checkpoints that’s what they’re supposed to do anyway but on when it’s holidays and Friday nights and Saturday nights why do they got to do them any other time but they shouldn’t have to have grants to do their job you’re exactly right.
