Lafayette police detectives arrested two Oakland residents in Stockton on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in connection with a series of auto burglaries in Lafayette last month. Detectives were in Stockton searching for a stolen vehicle linked to the July crimes when they spotted it and notified the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force, a multi-agency team made up of officers from Stockton, Tracy, Manteca, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol. Delta RATT located the stolen car, but the driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit. The suspect fled on foot and barricaded herself in an apartment, where she was later taken into custody along with another person when they exited the residence. Police identified the suspects as 25-year-old Leticia Fernandez and 29-year-old Jose Luis Barajas Avalos, both from Oakland. Fernandez faces charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, evading a peace officer, resisting or obstructing an officer, conspiracy, and probation violation. Barajas Avalos faces charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting or obstructing an officer, conspiracy, and probation violation. Both are being held without bail. The investigation is ongoing, and both suspects are also believed to be involved in other crimes in the Bay Area.
