The football field at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord was significantly damaged by a fire over the weekend, police said Tuesday. Concord police and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded Sunday morning to a report of a fire on the newly installed synthetic turf field at the school located at 2450 Grant St. Investigators found surveillance footage showing what appears to be several people, possibly juveniles, who set off fireworks on the field the night before. The fire damaged the center logo on the field, according to a letter school principal Markell McCain sent to the campus community Monday. “We recognize the significant impact this has on our students and athletic programs. Our immediate priority is to support our students, teams and coaches and to begin planning for restoration,” McCain wrote. The Mt. Diablo High football team was supposed to host the first game of its season this coming Friday against Terra Linda High School from San Rafael, but the game has been moved to Concord High School. Mt. Diablo High’s football team wrote on social media Tuesday to announce the location change for the game and gave a “huge thank you to Concord High and Concord High Football for lending us a hand during difficult times.” Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Detective Lee Lawrence at (925) 671-3234.

You cant have anything nice in Concord or they will destroy it.I have to park my cars behind a fence or they intentionally scratch them up and i stopped having a lawn because the dog owners and drunk drivers ruined it.

Hopefully PD will find these individuals whom I assume will post a video of this on Social media. Once found arrest and find them the money it will take to make the repairs.

So sad.

Feel bad for the school and the football players.

The Totem poles started being cut down in 1963 and were gone by 1967.

Anything displayed out front will get stolen or wrecked in Concord. The homeless are out all night, using the canal trails to ship their stolen stuff around,,HELLO Concord police, you stopped canal patrol…why?

The canal trails are EBRPD jurisdiction, not Concord PD.

WCPD used to patrol the CCC trails in WC – on bicycle & motorcycle, but no longer

I have mainly seen the WCPD bicycle and motorcycle patrols on the parts of the Ygnacio Canal trail that are not in the EBRPD system. During events such as the Walnut Festival at Heather Farm park the WCPD bicycle units will be out and about including on the main canal trail. As they are electric they are also fairly silent and more than once have allowed an officer to sneak up on a subject.
.
It is cool to see bicycles outfitted as police vehicles with the red and blue lights, etc.

That’s not thew point now is it?

Fireworks are safe and sane, indeed.
What’s not safe and sane, are dumb, dimwit dangerous humans.

No doubt educated right there at that school.

Since the logo in the center of the field was destroyed, I’m guessing it was some altered nefarious teens from a rival high school. Hope they’re captured and punished appropriately. Offer up a reward and lets see who spills the beans on these clowns.

If vandalism was their intent why would they set off fireworks?
A bottle of rubbing alcohol and a match would have been alot faster & easier.
They were probably just setting off fire works where they thought it was safe & accidentally set the synthetic turf on fire, then ran like sissies.

Rival high school football players. 2024 was the most successful year at Mt Diablo. I hope they’re caught. Kudos to Concord High!

Great, I’ll be able to hear the gun shots from my house.
