A recent refinery issue has caused a surge in gas prices ahead of Labor Day weekend. The national average for a gallon of regular went up more than seven cents this past week to $3.21 mainly due to flooding at BP Whiting Refinery in Indiana. The largest refinery in the Midwest shut down operations for several days following a severe thunderstorm. As a result, states in the Great Lakes region saw an increase in gas prices, but they may get some relief soon now that the refinery is back online. “Overall, summer gas prices have remained steady and should trend downward as the fall season begins,” says Doug Johnson, spokesperson with AAA Mountain West Group. “The incident in Indiana underscores the futility of predicting gas prices. Mother Nature and geopolitical events can suddenly and unexpectedly impact fuel prices.”
Today, California drivers will find an average price of $4.59, a ten cent jump from last week. The National average is $3.21. Fuel Prices Around the State:
- Contra Costa: $4.62
- San Francisco: $4.71
- Oakland: $4.63
- San Jose: $4.57
- Sacramento: $4.54
- Fresno: $4.59
- Stockton: $4.48
I’m surprised they still bother with concocting a reason for price jumps.
Now it’s a “fair weather” refinery to blame.
What’s the difference?
Everybody will be driving 80+ mph until they spot a Cop anyway.
But we can do that 80 with less cylinders
less fuel and safer than 20-30-40-50 years ago.
Coincidentally, I filled up a vehicle for exactly
$4.59/gal this morning.
No smiley face.
… have to remind everybody… part of Newscums package of campaign promises was to get under the price gouging by big oil on CA gas and bring parity to the country … did it happen? noooooo much like his promise to stop the high speed rail to no where and save taxpayers billions… did he? noooooooo but still got a second term and beat the recall – unreal
LOL, in 2015/2016 Kamala was supposed to also have a hearing on price gouging by big oil……then she decided she wanted to go to DC so it never happened! Interesting how all of these refineries are down for so called “maintenance” when there’s a holiday or 3 day weekend.
And for that we get terrible roads!
Gouge the tax-paying citizens.
California politicians’ motto.
Odd how that is the case, especially when the oil tankers come right into the Bay and we have the refineries right here. You’d think it would be cheaper here than in inland areas.
exactly.. its all a lie and people of california keep voting the same morons in everytime. Its insanity at its peak doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
I wonder…wait, no I don’t. 🥸
Wait and fill up @ about $4.26 a gal ARCO Tracy
when I go to the homes.
May even go to the place that’s “off the grid”
So-to-speak entering town that’s a couple cents less.
It’s all Trump’s fault, Newsom said so himself … CA residents, just shut up and buy that electric Car that Sacramento wants you to do
Thank you Dictator Newscum for only allowing it to be $1.30 more than the national average. We appreciate your generosity to the minions and peasants of this once great state. We may be the 4th largest economy of the world who pays for all the red states, but we are still happy to pay out the nose for the fuel to help you continue to stuff your bank accounts. Please tell us when we can help you with presidential ambition war chest funds as we know you cannot spend your money cause you need it for a 9 million dollar home (who actually bought that for you?), your meals at the Dirty Laundry and to take care of your best friend’s wife.
We know you need all this extra tax money, not to take care of our roads as we rank in the lowest 10 of all 50 states, to pay for all your frivolous law suits against your Daddy. We undestand how you honor him with your imitatation and you want the world to know that he lives free in your mind. And with such a large burden in your life, you are not concerned with the piss poor condition of our roads. We recogonize that you do not care and that you take the extra tax money on the gallons of gas for your personal pet projects – such as support for the illegal invaders over the conditions of our roads.
Though our road conditions suck and projects take much longer than anywhere else to complete (if ever), despite all the extra funding from the rich persons’ lanes (fastrack lanes not just hov), we recognize that it is only because you care about providing a driver license to someone who crossed our borders illegally so that he could kill innocent people in Florida.
We recognize you have a busy schedule (TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP) and that is why you have failed on another one of your campaign promises … remember you were going to help us with oil companies gouging us or did you finally realize that it wasn’t them, it was you?
So again, thank you for only making it on average a $1.30 more a gallon.
Looks to me that Newsom is setting up the state for a civil war given his latest actions. How foolish he is. He probably believes that “divide and conquer” will allow for the Getty dynasty to rule the state. I know at least one host of left leaning KPFA who expressed how much he even dislikes Newsom because he is dynasty.
CA Government needs to fight Trump harder! They seem to be losing the battle and we the taxpayers are suffering as a result. Bunch of BS. Next they will have a set of gas and utility prices for the vulnerable communities and another for the rest. Equity and Justice!
To think I complained about it being $2.71 here yesterday.
they are just taking advantage of holidays and upping the price everytime theres one because they know people are going to be driving more durning those times its all just for profit and an excuse. California buys the most gas we should get the best prices. When you buy in bulk or buy more usually you get a deal wholesale price but yeah they are clearly scamming us.
Gas this morning at Concord Arco is $4.39, which is the same price it was a week ago. The national average today is $3.18 or a .03 increase from a week ago. That’s $1.21 above the national average Of the cost, .61 is taxes, much of which was voted in over the years. A few cents here and there adds up. Three weeks ago, the cost of gas at Concord Arco was $4.29 and five weeks ago, it was $4.19. National average was $3.15 five weeks ago.
