QUESTION: Should speed limits on California freeways be increased, decreased, or stay the same?

Speed limits are just fine, it’s idiots who got their drivers training from grand theft auto
that are the problem. In favor of increasing number of Highway Patrol officers.
.
Anything over 100 mph, vehicle impounded for 90 days.
Third offense, vehicle is crushed.

Do not blame the vehicle, blame the driver. 3rd time license revoked, and vehicle sold at auction to pay for more officers… Driving on a suspended or no license, unless it is life threating emergency – jail time.

Kinda strange, . . . . . . . .every time there’s a mass shooting
democrats assign blame to assault weapons.

why change it, no one does it anyway. Hwy 4 is a good example

Same, leave well enough alone. Assessment and data come in on a regular basis.

The speed limit for trucks should be the same as cars. The 15MPH difference in some places between trucks and cars is dangerous.

While this sounds like a good idea, the braking power between a 6,000lb vehicle and a fully loaded rig @ 80,000lb is not the same.

A few decades back, a fully loaded cement truck ran over a car near Baily Rd exit
on highway 4

Rural, straight freeways should be increased to 80 mph, like several other states have done. Start ticketing the slow-pokes in the #1 lane (left lane). It isn’t so much the speed that kills as much as the fast lane changes to get around slower traffic.

Leave the same – but enforce trucks towing trailers to the 55mph limit – going 75 – 85mph is crazy and I see it all the time

There are plenty stretches of road that I would like to see the limit increased to 80. The road is straight, with long stretches of emptiness (including other cars). Newer vehicles can handle that speed with ease. I have seen many vehicles pass me doing well above that and all was fine. If a car cannot do that speed, well, don’t. Going through L.A. I have seen traffic doing 70-75 (in a 65) get passed by a number of vehicles doing well above, and, no issues, at least on that particular highway.

Every action, even well intentioned
has consequences at this point.
Whatever, I don’t have to breathe there anymore.

If you lower the limit nobody will obey. If you raise the speed limit by 10 mph everyone will drive 30 mph over that. If you leave it the same you don’t have to worry about the consequences, whatever they may be, of change. You’re still going to get the fast and furious a*holes you have now.
