BART Crime Drops Sharply As New Fare Gates And Safety Plan Take Hold

Newly released data shows crime has dropped substantially on BART through the first seven months of this year. The number of violent crimes reported on BART declined from 203 for the first seven months of 2024 to 130 incidents this year. Property crimes also fell from 1,091 for the first seven months of 2024 to 547 this year. The decrease in crime has come as BART PD has remained focused on maintaining a highly visible safety presence in the system. At the same time BART has accelerated the installation of Next Generation Fare Gates. Now 48 of BART’s 50 stations have new high-tech gates, which are proving to be a strong deterrent against fare evasion and other unwanted behavior. BART is well on track to meet its goal to have Next Generation Fare Gates at all stations by the end of this year. Maintaining a visible safety presence and installing new gates are both key components of BART’s Safe and Clean Plan to put the everyday concerns of riders first. Other highlights include:

  • Robberies plummeted from 126 for the first seven months of 2024 to 37 this year.
  • Only one cellphone robbery was reported for the entire system in July. That follows zero cellphone robberies in June.
  • Auto burglaries fell from 449 last year to 162 in 2025.

BART PD’s highly visible safety presence is making it possible for officers to get to incidents more quickly. The average emergency response time for July was 4 minutes, 21 seconds. That’s below BART PD’s goal of five minutes.

Or part of it might be the Trump effect!

This should’ve been implemented a long time ago.

I do see less homeless on trains now. Maybe the new fare gates are working. A few times i ridden bart they had officers checking the riders purchased their fare to ride the train. They kicked off a homeless person for not having purchased a ticket.

Things looking up at BART!
BTW Mr. Mayor, the English police want you to know that it’s “Newly released data show crime….”
as “data” is the plural form. Just sayin.

Keep non-paying customers out of the system and it improves dramatically. Keep pushing, let those types know if they come onto the property/system good chance they get noticed by the authorities. Be great to have no sleepers, urinators and crazy actors.

I could have told you that the gate-jumoers were the problem! They caused a lot of crime and intimidation to other riders, who then stopped riding Bart, causing economic trouble for Bart. But the tolerance of these gate jumpers was the fault of the BART board of directors. Only one- Deborah Allen- voiced objection to letting homeless and inner city kuds and druggied just jumped the fair gate with impunity. The rest of the BART directors thought it was only fair and kind to let those people ride for free. But we now see what the result was! Thank goodness people are coming to their senses seeing what damage this liberal infested philosophy.has done!
( except for a lot of democrats who still push their failed policies)

It’s amazing how ridership had to go to record lows to get this change. When it was high ridership they didn’t care. They already had your money. It’s a start to redemption. Now if only we could have it pay for itself through ridership and station/train advertising. I bet even at full capacity they still wouldn’t make enough to cover those large salaries.

The problem is that this is based on reported crimes and not all crimes. How many people don’t report crimes because of all of the years of inaction that BART made the public suffer through?

The previous numbers also didn’t include unreported crimes, tbe data is always relative to what’s reported.

Lovelace,
.
Yet, year after year more crime goes unreported due to inaction, further skewing crime statistics.

Most dont report crime on Bart because they know its pointless,so times everything they say here by 5 to 10.That is all.

As all big cities have crime reduced by Trump they will all take credit for it themselves and say that Trump came just to be in the way and make them look bad after he heard they were doing it,and some will deny Trump was ever there.Come election time, blue cities will insist you vote blue as they are now crime free and they didnt need any help.Watch.

Newsom and the others are too obtuse to recognise classic B.F. Skinner behavior modification techniques are being used on them.
And it’s clearly working.
Pro-crime politician’s suddenly dancing like marionettes screaming “Let’s get tough on crime.”
