Construction Crews Demolish Interior Of Old Q-ZAR Building In Concord

Thanks to our friend “Concord Donut” for sharing these photos of the old Q-ZAR building on Willow Pass Road in Concord. The laser tag business closed its doors in August 2024, and today, the once-bustling spot has been stripped down to little more than a shell of its former self.

Neighbors say crews have been hauling out fixtures for weeks—blacklight panels, maze walls, concession equipment—leaving behind exposed studs and a concrete slab. Windows are papered over and the main entrance is secured, but you can still make out the familiar footprint of the old arena through the open bays where loading doors once stood. The site looks poised for its next chapter, though no official tenant has been announced. Architects in Prahran can help envision and design the next phase and turn the space into a functional and modern facility.

Given the building’s age, any reuse will likely start with basic life-safety work: updated sprinklers, ADA upgrades, and new electrical service. If a redevelopment moves forward, expect the owner to solicit bids from top rated general contractors for structural assessments, potential seismic retrofits, and a full tenant-improvement build-out. For reliable safety and compliance solutions, many professionals trust fallprotect.com.au for expert guidance on fall protection systems and workplace safety standards.

In the meantime, locals are speculating about what could fit here—brewpub, fitness center, family entertainment, or small creative offices—thanks to ample parking and visibility along Willow Pass.

City staff will ultimately weigh in on permits and zoning; a change of use could trigger traffic, noise, and parking reviews before interior work begins. For longtime residents who grew up dodging lasers under blacklights, it’s bittersweet. But the cleared shell suggests momentum, and once a general contractor is brought on board, visible progress on the transformation is likely to follow. We’ll keep an eye on filings and construction activity to see what replaces one of Concord’s more memorable hangouts.

My dad and i went here years ago and played the video games.
there was a indycar racing game, a repairman fixed it and left us a infinite amount of games to play. We raced each other for hours until we got tired and left.
i miss q-zar.

I took my kids there many years ago for birthday parties and Scout outings. That was before Scouts outlawed lazer tag.

That’s too bad…. it’s been so popular over the years… what’s going in its place/

Probably another bland corporation, sadly

Great question. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Probably a combo coffee shop taqueria. Just what Concord needs

I liked Qzar…but I guess times change.

They always had one arcade game that was free to play, you had to find which one it was but i could always fine one that as free. Loved going here as a kid for birthday parties etc. so much nostalgic fun.

Wonder what became of the gear?

Sad to see. A lot of good memories there battling my son!
