This is a good question because I recently bought something that was way overpriced. I’ve been working on an old Corvette, and came across a switch in the engine compartment that needed replacing. I thought, “no big deal,” I’ll find it in one of the catalogs that sell after market Corvette replacement parts. The catalogs I have sell every part imaginable at reasonable prices, you name it, they have it. Everything except the switch I needed. It is no longer being made and has been discontinued. I even checked with the Chevy dealer, and they checked every Chevy dealer in the US and Canada, with no luck. I finally found a used switch at a Corvette wrecking yard in Mississippi, and they wanted $160.00 plus shipping for a used switch that probably cost $25.00 new, and $10.00 used before it was discontinued. Now that it has been discontinued, they can charge any price they want, and they know a sucker like me will come along and buy it because there isn’t any other choice.
Isn’t life grand?
I bought a one year only – one engine only – Calif only – thermactor smog system for a Ford for $40 that was in a pillow case for a car I was restoring and left thinking what a sucker I am ….. now that system is virtually priceless… I turned down $500 for it.. you never know
@Dawg
Finding that switch in an old yard in Mississippi is impressive. In my opinion, that does not make you a sucker. You were determined to obtain what you wanted and needed, and you accomplished just that. Good for you. 🙂
I do mind overpaying for anything & everything.
It isn’t just the money, it’s the principal !
Getting gouged makes me feel like a chump and I resent it!
No respect for me? Then no business for you!
lay flat business class seating on international flights. Lounge access, 2 carry ons (never check a bag), first off an in line for customs, edible meals, cleaner lavatories, privacy, space, bedding with pillows and the ability to actually sleep comfortably. It’s ridiculously expensive, but the vacation starts when you arrive at the airport rather than when you arrive grouchy, tired and stiff at your destination.
Whatever
I agree. Figure it’s my money and I’m worth it. I have an overnight flight in May from SF to London and I will get there well rested. That alone is worth the money
Dang, all you guys have better answers.
Nice pull, and I’m guilty.
I once spent $810 to upgrade to Business
on an employer sponsored trip back from Guam.
Worth every damn penny too.
A quality strong safe vehicle that will be my last.

A good trustworthy shop to work on my two mid 1990s Chevrolet vehicles. Dealership is no longer worth the hassle. Had vehicle sit almost two weeks and was never touched. More recently they now flat refuse to work on one of my vehicles claiming it’s too old. Rather interesting since new old parts are still readily available sitting on Chevrolet warehouse shelves. Have to wonder if owner knows what’s going on.
Just be glad they told you flat out no. Have you ever had diagnostic work done recently? If so, what were their findings?

Good customer service… I don’t want them to kiss my a$$ or anything but polite, professional, genuine customer care I believe is somewhere in the past.

I’m thinking along the lines of Warm Kitty, Duck, Barstoolateds, and Angry American, with food and service. A terrific meal with excellent service is a luxury that I find necessary about once a year.

Sadly, at this point, an honest auto mechanic that fixes a problem correctly the first time.
Probably a bit out of the way for most of you, but Paul’s Automotive in Oakley is the best overall repair shop I’ve ever taken work to (3 different vehicles, 1969, 1997 & 2014).
Large modern shop & definitely the place to go to with your old muscle cars & hot rods.
Work is done at very reasonable cost.
Great dental care/treatment
or
First responder therapist
Good dental is a good answer, better than mine probably.
Amazing fruit.
Another great answer.
probably my coffee. Places like starbucks made expensive coffee normal.
now we have tons of coffee shops selling $6 or $7 latte’s.
More firefighters or equipment for them.
Travel to exotic places, quality beef, seafood, Naples style pizza, farm fresh veggie’s, eggs, whiskey, wine, and women. LOL!!!
The last one was a joke, but not really.
Guitars, Amp’s, and speakers cabinets.
