BART trains were unable to start running early Friday morning after a computer equipment problem shut down the system, according to the transit agency.
“A computer equipment problem following network upgrade work is preventing the start of BART service this morning. Seek alternative means of transportation,” BART said in an advisory released shortly after 5 a.m.
The agency urged commuters to use the BART Trip Planner on bart.gov or the BART app to find transit alternatives by deselecting BART in “transit options.” It also directed passengers to a map of bus and ferry alternatives at bart.gov/transbayalts.
While crews worked to restore train control systems, commuters packed alternate transit and clogged key corridors across the Bay Area. Riders reported longer waits for AC Transit, Muni, and ferry departures as agencies scrambled to add capacity. Employers were urged to allow remote work or flexible hours, and travelers heading to the airports were advised to pad their schedules and consider rideshare to connect with regional rail once service resumed.
Although this outage stemmed from BART’s backend infrastructure, it’s a reminder that even routine upgrades can surface unexpected failures. Organizations can reduce risk with staged rollouts, rollback plans, and clear incident playbooks—practices familiar to firms that handle network diagnostics and pc computer repair services which you can find online, and that’s why learning about PC Revive can be helpful in these cases. For expert help, it’s also good to look into IT Support Peterborough. For individual commuters, keeping transit apps updated, bookmarking alternative routes, and enabling service alerts can make the next disruption less painful.
Wow it happened again? And on a weekday. Man Bart cannot catch a break. Im thankful i dont have to ride bart daily.
Two three day weekends in a row!
… and the last big handout was supposedly to fix these frailties in their infrastructure… ad they’re wanting another handout…. no way – they need to fix what they have and show responsibility and accountability to its riders… another example of why people can’t trust BART
Really?
The Bay Area, which bills itself as the tech capital of the world, can’t even keep the computers on one of its most vital transportation systems running?
I’ve taken public transit all over the world, this might be something experienced in a third world country.
Everyone who works for BART should ride the transit system in a country like Japan. Where they take “public service” VERY seriously. They actually invest in the infrastructure, not building apartments in the transit systems parking lots.
LOL
Bart shut itself down on purpose.
They want to extract more billion$ from taxpayers.
What about 2001 a space Odyssey? Is HAL on the loose again?
They probably need to replace those Commodore 64s that are running the system. 😎
How long will it take Weiner to tell us that the state needs to fully find Bart without the need for voter approval?
My bet is that he’ll speak at noon today.
Last Friday, there was no train coming or leaving SF from 5:30pm- 8:30 pm due to a brake issue. But I still love BART. Good excuse to be late.
i’m sure your po understood.
Maybe Elon can take care of it.
In the 1990s I lived across the street from a BART station. I could probably could on one hand how many times I took it.
Must be made by the same computer that got “men to the moon” not strong enough to power your phone or a watch..imagine that? And kids (and really really old people)still insist we went when Musk just told the world it takes 8 rocketds full of fuel to get one ricket to the moon after they figure out how to get thru the radiation without killing all life forms and frying the electronics.
Or how about the computers on the two voyagers? They’re still working traveling billions of miles from us. And here you’re told you need a new phone every two years.
and video and phone calls direct from the moon in 1969……..when you can’t use your phone in the desert or mountains now, proving there are no real satellites for phone use (or anything else),or we would not need cell towers.
I still don’t understand why they don’t do upgrades on a very early weekend morning instead of just prior to commuting rush time.
They arent tell the truth maybe??????????????????????????Things just broke, and they say they are broke…….too many cars being charged in the lot?
