A 39-year-old Caltrans engineer died Thursday near Martinez after being hit by an asphalt truck during construction work on state Highway 4 in Contra Costa County, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office announced. Mahdi Khorram died after being hit in an area of the highway closed for construction. He was assigned to the project as a construction inspector based out of Caltrans’ District 4 office in Concord, according to the governor’s office. “An employee since 2023, Mahdi was a dedicated public servant committed to making our roads safer for all Californians,” Newsom said in a statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues mourning this terrible tragedy.” Mahdi is survived by his wife and 3-year-old child. Flags at the state Capitol will be flown at half-staff in his honor, according to the governor’s office. More details about what led to the death were not immediately available.
Damn. Dying at work
along a California highway
just isn’t fair.
There are no words.
May his family find peace somehow.
God Bless them.
Truly sad. A 3 year old child. I have said a prayer for them.
Cal-Trans driver of asphalt truck? contractor of Cal-Trans? sad but you guys need to be way more careful
Bless his soul and family. When my husband retired
In Colorado and we came back home to California. Worked first with Port of Oakland then a short
stint with Caltrans. Told me he better get off that highway heading to the Bay Bridge or he’ll get injured or killed, as one one of his team had just
got hit, but survived. Thus, he got out.
Bless those that do it every day.
