California drivers are bracing for higher prices at the pump as refinery maintenance this fall cuts production. The state average for regular gas rose to $4.65 on Wednesday, up two cents from last week. San Francisco drivers are paying the most at $4.72 a gallon, followed by Contra Costa County ($4.64), Oakland ($4.64), San Jose ($4.58), Sacramento ($4.56), Fresno ($4.61), and Stockton ($4.50). Prices also spiked in the Pacific Northwest, where a pipeline outage drove averages sharply higher in Oregon and Washington. “Up until today, Washington was the state with the most expensive gas for several days, surpassing California,” said AAA spokesperson Doug Johnson. Nationally, the average inched up a penny to $3.20. The Energy Information Administration reported gasoline demand rose to 8.81 million barrels a day last week, while supplies fell to 217.6 million barrels and production slipped to 9.4 million barrels a day.
California Gas Prices Edge Higher As Refinery Work And Supply Strains Hit West Coast

Do you remember a few years ago when oil was $140-$150 a barrel? That caused gas prices to go over $4- per gallon. Current crude prices are $63-$69 per gallon. Taxes added a few pennies. Why is gas so high?
NEWSCUM. Thats why and people keep going to the polls and voting for him. Then complain why our state is deteriorating right before our eyes.
Gavin Newsom is mentioned every time the cost of gas is mentioned, but someone correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think the governer sets taxes on gas. It’s either voters or state legislatures. The governer signs them into law. It seems like many of the increases came through voters.
Do you really have to ask?
Gigantic pile of weapons grade Boloinium. No where else in the country does this happen and they all rely on the same sources.

What will prices be after, refinery closures ? ?
.
California has repeatedly demonstrated it’s belief in utopian fantasies.
Years of laws passed by democrat super majority state legislature
and regulatory processes from unelected bureaucrats have demonstrated
to owners of businesses it’s not worth the hassle of conducting business
in California.
US Steel plant, in Pittsburg was closed even though it was very profitable.
.
A bill working it’s way thru state legislature, grants governor ability to
suspend “summer blend” requirement, enabling importation of gasoline
from other states, which might prevent a repeat of 1970s odd even rationing.
Problem, cost of transport by rail, adds roughly $12.00 in cost per barrel,
meaning higher prices.
.
An what’s the point of all the ‘clean air’ laws and regulations, when summer
wildfires negate years mandated improvements ? ? ?
.
Mean time, it’s fun to watch democrats, in way over their heads, backpedaling
without mirrors . . . . . . . .
CHum
The “dems” are creating the cause of their own demise, acting without thinking through to see the consequences. This has always happened throughout history. Karma is coming for them.
USS-POSCO was only profitable maybe 4 years out of it’s almost 30 years of existance as a joint venture. Some of those profitable years came from insurance money after a fire in their main facility. In it’s final years it was breaking even or losing money. Some years it lost 50 million reguarly. The reason for losing money in recent years, was because of tariffs and quotas placed on Korean steel, which was 50% of the raw material imported into the plant. It was high quality and low cost. That happened in 2018. POSCO couldn’t supply any material and eventually pulled out after 5 years of that condition. That forced the plant to only source material from it’s parent US Steel, which supplied more costly, but lessor quality product. Incidentally the main source of the material was Granite City, which has recently been idled. US Steel felt it was too costly to ship across the US and remain profitable. Even during the years where it seemed like the mill could be profitable, there was claims against the material, which utilimately placed the mill into the red by the time the books were closed. So to say it was very profitable is not true. It could have been profitable, but was never really setup to be profitable. Instead it was a guaranteed customer for it’s parent. It was definitely good to the employees, especially if you were union, as it offered great paying jobs, pension, and great benefits. There was incentives on the front end. I don’t think people consider what happens if all the money doesn’t come in from the customers for various reasons. Customers regularly didn’t pay, short paid, or said the steel wasn’t as great as quality as it was in the past, and achieved a discount. Ultimately what killed USS-POSCO was tarrifs. Had POSCO not pulled out, it would have remained in business.
California has the highest gas taxes in the nation.
California has a requirement for a unique specialized blend for their gas, making it more expensive.
California adds green requirements for every stage of production and distribution.
And if you think gas is expensive now, wait until California starts chasing gas companies out of the state.
The taxes on gas for our area is .61. The last few increases, to my knowledge, we’re added by voters. Personally, I voted against every increase. I’ll never understand increasing taxes for certain measures, but apparently that’s what people wanted. Some of it is road improvements– which I have to add, seem to be always happening. Right now they’re working on Clayton Rd. Ygnaico is always under some sort of improvement. Treat and Monument had improvements. Willow Pass really needs to have work done.
Newsom was supposed to bring gas prices in line with the rest of the nation – per his campaign promises… and stop big oil gouging CA residents.. did he? Nooooooooo … just like he said he would stop wasting taxpayers $$ on the high speed rail to no where… did he? Noooooo
The cost went down at Concord Arco. $4.35 yesterday, a .04 decrease from the week before. Meanwile the nantional average went up .01 to $3.20 from a week ago.
Moved back east to New England and pay 3.10 a gallon!! So glad I left California!!
