Reportedly fire Chevron refinery in El Segundo has shutdown production,
roughly 270,000 barrels per day. Depending on heat damage might take
up to 7 – 8 months to fix. Replacing process piping and control elements.
On electrical side, heat damaged conduits have to be replaced, insulation
melts off wire inside conduits. All wiring has to be re-pulled and terminated.
Iff refinery did not maintain up to date wiring prints, will take longer.
Worked a fire rebuild years ago, took almost a year to complete.

Problems in CA are from passing unrealistic goals, then expecting refiners to

The 2025 California Legislative Session ended about 3 weeks ago with no deal to save the Valero Benicia Refinery and 2 weeks ago Benicia City Manager Mario Giuliani said that Valero can move forward with the closure of the refinery.

The Valero Benicia refinery may actually close before the April 2026 expected closure date. The Phillips 66 Los Angeles refinery is expected to stop processing crude oil in the next 2 weeks before closing in December 2025.

According to the State of California’s October 2024 numbers, the Valero Benicia refinery accounts for about 9% of California’s crude oil refining capacity, the Phillips 66 Los Angeles refinery accounts for about 9% of California’s crude oil refining capacity, and the Chevron El Segundo refinery accounts for about 17% of California’s crude oil refinery capacity, and currently produces 20% of the gas, 20% of motor oils, and more than 40% of aviation fuels consumed in Southern California.
Not to mention the City of Benicia is going to be in some huge financial straits.
Hard to lose the City’s largest employer and 20% of your tax revenue in one fell swoop. That said, my relative that live in Benicia tell me the City Council is pretty anti-Valero so I guess they finally got what they wanted or perhaps it a case of be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
I guess that could also be said of California as well.

If you are poor and disabled, the government will pay for your food and provide in home support (IHSS)- someone will come cook and clean for you. The other route is to join a health group that can take care of everything for you ( check out center for elder independence aka CEI). As far as universal basic income is concerned, it is a work in progress (the city of Stockton is trying it out); we just need more people to buy in! So please vote democrat and yes on prop 50!

The adult way of looking at this problem is the other side of your proverbial coin. We wouldn’t need to worry about illegals using our health system on our dime f these illegal aliens were denied admission to this country in the first place. Send them home, where they belong, and let their home country’s health care system deal with them.

As someone who has been in Portland a number of times in the last month, I think it is safe to say that President Trump is completely ignorant of the actual situation on the ground. Two visits to Kaiser provided no indication of Antifa’s presence. Another visit to a store to buy pants in a completely different part of town was similarly uneventful. A recent dinner, likewise.
There are protesters near the ICE buildings, but other than that, not much is going on. Well, the homeless situation is pretty bad, but I don’t think the National Guard will help much with that.
Luckily, a Trump-appointed, Republican judge ruled that he had no case whatsoever to send in the National Guard.
