It doesn’t matter – congressmembers tend to become multimillionaires despite their (comparatively) small salaries. Stopping their pay won’t hurt them.
The comment “despite their (comparatively) small salaries” is interesting – $174,000 is annual salary for a house of representees member, on top of very generous benefits and reimbursements. That’s not small, that’s twice the median household income for this country. The older I get the more I despise the government no matter who is in power. I’m 33
The majority of state and federal politicians are really nothing more than well dressed slick speaking highly accomplished con artists.
Only those congress people who vote the govt to remain open. Vote for a shutdown and you vote for a personal pay cut.
They should not get paid during this shutdown. They should not get paid after the shut down until they do something about immigration, balancing the budget, getting rid of wasteful government, lowering my taxes, etc.

Constitution. The 27th Amendment guarantees compensation for their services.

It’s interesting that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Courtez made demands about reinstating the $3 million in funding for circumcision in Zambia, while 1/3 of U.S. states don’t cover circumcision with their Medicaid programs. More of worrying about foreign countries instead of Americans.

The U.N. has been spending decades going into African nations performing circumcisions to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, but the U.S. shouldn’t necessarily be funding these programs, especially when many U.S. states Medicaid programs don’t cover circumcision. Who should come first, Americans or foreign countries?
There are rules in life and business and the #1 is pay yourself first. I know that might sound a little selfish but if you do not pay yourself (take care of yourself) first you will soon have nothing left to give. This goes for almost everything including the Country. Bankrupt means bankrupt.
You are correct. One number quoted is that roughly 18% of the government is shut down. Very few people even notice any difference. I cannot speak for the socialist programs that dole taxpayer money to those seasoned citizens, or those that cannot or prefer not to work and thus need assistance.
