As autumn sets in, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has dropped to $3.11 from last week’s $3.15 average. According to the Energy Information Administration, demand for gasoline has fallen to a four-month low, contributing to the continued decline in pump prices. With the third quarter of 2025 ending in higher gasoline inventories and the seasonal transition from summer-grade to winter-grade fuel, consumers are likely to see even lower prices at the pump in the coming weeks.
Northern California refineries are expected to help cover supply in Southern California following the Chevron refinery fire in El Segundo late last week. The average cost of regular gasoline in California rose two cents per gallon since last week to $4.66. Fuel Prices Around the State:
Contra Costa: $4.66
San Francisco: $4.75
Oakland: $4.65
San Jose: $4.60
Sacramento: $4.61
Fresno: $4.59
Stockton: $4.52
This is just the beginning. Prices will most likely go higher in the coming months. Phillips is closing a refinery at the end of Oct (I think) and Valero is shuttering it’s Benicia refinery in April (I think). Both have stated that the state’s regulations, fees, anti business climate, and red tape are the reason. That’s 20% of CA’s refining capacity.
Add to the closures the fact that CA imports most of it’s oil via tankers (because we don’t have any pipelines INTO the state, and it’s pretty obvious that gasoline shortages will occur (unless demand goes waaaaaaaay down). Economics 101: When you remove 20% of something from the economy, and the demand remains stable or rises, then shortages will ensue and the price will increase.
Thank you Dems!
Of course CA will stay high ….. refineries are being driven out of the state – Newsom didn’t deliver on his campaign commitment to bring our fuel prices in line with the rest of the country – and the very high gas taxes we pay are siphoned off to fund politicos pet projects, instead of going to street maintenance
remember he wants to be president. gag!
Well how high do you think our gas prices are going to get after all the refineries close in the bay area thru the efforts of the Bay Area Quality Air Management District?
Jet fuel fire has no effect on gasoline prices BUT oh they use it as an excuse to raise them.

The El Segundo Chevron refinery supplied 20% of the gas consumed in Southern California, in addition to 20% of motor oils and 40% of aviation fuels.
