Martinez police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist seriously injured early Saturday morning. According to the Martinez Police Department, officers were called to the area of Muir Road and Sweetwater Drive around 7:30 a.m. on October 11, 2025, following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. When officers arrived, bystanders were already providing aid to the injured cyclist. Police officers took over until personnel from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and AMR arrived at the scene.
The bicyclist suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver involved fled before police arrived. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact Corporal Derrick King at (925) 494-5789 or dking@cityofmartinez.org
.
Find the motorist, try the motorist, and if found guilty, make sure he never drives again.
And make the motorist pay for the bicyclists’ every expense in perpetuity.
None said the driver was male. They should never have fled because many time the cyclist is at fault.
Now they are in deep doodoo and must live in fear.
I am a former cyclist and was a victim of a hit-and-run in Walnut Creek CA on No Broadway & Civic Drive. It was a white van that drove along side of me then suddenly moved into my lane and he grazed me on my left side. I had no where to go but landed on the grass along side of the curb. Close call. I barely avoided hitting a tree. but survived with a banged up right knee.
Many times, the cyclist is at fault. They are obligated to follow the laws of the road, but they pick and choose, and this ends up being a safety issue for every single person and car around them. Whizzing through stop signs and lights, mowing down pedestrians, changing lanes at will. I am over cyclists. That being said, I am also over most car drivers, and of course you do not take off if someone is injured.
If it was an electric bike, might be a different story, the bikes and scooters are out of control. No laws, requirements, license or anything!
Also depending on what part of Muir and Sweetwater that was makes the difference. One part is a steep hill, was the cyclist catching some speed down the hill on Muir and the car pulled out in front of them?
This happened at the upper Sweetwater-Muir Road intersection.
I recall coming up on a cyclist down in the street here in Martinez. I stopped and asked if he was all right and he said yes but he was disgusted at himself because he had been looking at his phone and not for the numerous potholes in the street. 😁
What about flying bikes?
