Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) and Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) sent a letter to House Committee on Education & Workforce Chair Tim Walberg (R-MI), urging him to convene a hearing on the growing epidemic of gun violence in schools.
The letter follows recent shootings at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado.
DeSaulnier and Scott emphasized that frequent tragedies like these leave students feeling unsafe in school, harming both engagement and mental health. They noted that the Education & Workforce Committee has direct jurisdiction over school safety and school-based mental health programs, and therefore has a “unique opportunity to foster solutions” by holding a hearing on gun violence and considering legislation such as the Mental Health Matters Act, which addresses the behavioral health needs of students.
This just in! Old Markie is going to call a hearing on butterflys and puppies!
Mark,
I’m sure that you can come up with some other tragedies besides Annunciation and Evergreen. The common denominator that these have is that the shooter was TRANS. If you really want to reduce violence, then stop promoting the lie that trans is normal and healthy. It’s not!
You want to help kids with their behavioral health? Stop allowing men into girls locker rooms and onto sports teams. Stop coddling confused kids and teach science, not wishes.
Stop pretending that it is the gun that is the problem. Crazy people with guns are the problem. Citizens have the right to bear arms, but nowhere does it say that anybody has the right to trans.
I’ve got an idea, how about a hearing on adults and parents screwing up our youth with LBGTQIA theories and encouraging them to “change their gender” and filling their heads with so much crap and social media BS that they very often decide to take a gun to school just to feel something.
It is not now, nor ever has been the fault of the gun. Once again, shut up Mark.
Retire Markey D, I suspect you have “made” enough in your time in Congress (just like every other Member) Let someone else get the Graft. You are a selfish member.
Not true Fed Up!
Mark is down near the bottom of the graft list #434…. I think he’s just doing it wrong, or hiding it better!

Hard to believe, what is his spouse’s story?
Maybe he is hoping for a big payday when he retires?
Seems like he’s looking for something to do so he doesn’t have to address the high level of poverty, low amount of jobs, homelessness and high crime in the areas he represents.
Have you even attended his Town Halls or looked at the bi-partisan legislation he’s proposed in Congress?!?
Town Hall meetings- all talk.
Proposed legislation- all talk.
Not all of us are easily duped by feckless politicians.
We are so fortunate to have this man as our representative. I was hesitant at first about this former Republican bar owner, but over the years, I have seen how hard he works for CA-10. He seems tireless, flying in to talk with constituents almost every weekend in CC County and spending the weekdays in DC working for us. And no other Congressional Rep has held as many Town Halls!
Wow ConcordRez! How enlightening…. so what has Mark D. accomplished?
Go ahead and brag a little.
Go ahead…. anything at all… whatz he done
You’re a solid supporter so you must know.
Tireless? Working for us? Here’s a link to MARK’S OWN WEBSITE outlining his “legislative achievements”. I bet not a single one has affected your life for the better, they’re actually laughable if you think about how long he’s been there and how much he’s paid. https://desaulnier.house.gov/legislation/key-legislative-accomplishments
@ConcordRez
When you say he is in DC working for us, who is “us”? Based on his voting record, he most certainly is not working for women and girls, as he has proven he could give a $hit about them. He only cares about what you seem to care about, having a lot of useless town hall meetings.
I’m not a criminal, an illegal alien, a welfare lifer, a fan of rampant crime, a person happy about massive ever increasing taxes, a supporter of child molesters…
So I’m not fortunate to have this man as my representative.
Remember when Pelosi said “This glass of water would win with a ‘D’ next to its name in those districts”
It would appear we are also one of “those districts” and De Saulnier is our glass of water.
every year it seems we hear about the “growing epidemic of gun violence in schools.” then some oaf who is supposed to represent his voters pontificates in a town hall, just to go back to DC and enjoy the lavish lifestyle of a Congressman. I am more concerned about the meth/crack heads standing on the corners of our streets, ranting at drivers, or collecting all their garbage in a makeshift campsite on our hiking trails, or the mob of people who have hit our local jewelry stores.
Oh for Pete’s sake welcome to the party dude you’re a little late with what’s going on out there!
Mark,
.
You should’ve demanded constant Congressional hearings on this subject while Democrats had the House majority from 2019-2023. Congressional hearings are absolutely pointless because the Democrats will only have witnesses who tell them what they want to hear and the Republicans will only have witnesses who tell them what they want to hear. You specifically mentioned shootings which took place in Minnesota and Colorado, where your party has control over the governorship, upper house, and holds a tie in the lower house of the Minnesota State Legislature, and trifecta control of the governorship and both houses of the Colorado State Legislature. So, get on the phone and tell your fellow party members in Minnesota and Colorado to hold hearings on this subject, if it’s truly that important to you, as not every “perceived solution” has to come or should come from Washington, D.C. This is just more grandstanding so you could put out another meaningless press release.
They never seem especially interested in discussing who happens to be holding the gun.
Gee, why would that be?
