How does the commuting of George Santos sentence square with Trump’s Law and Order? If he at least could be consistent, I might have some respect for him! George Santos stole ID’s of people in his district and used that money on himself, plus numerous other malfeasances, why should he not pay for his crime. He said he won’t pay back the money the court ordered him to do, unless ordered again.

The media has reported that George Santos was being held in isolation due to having received death threats, and President Trump stated that George Santos was being “horribly treated.” The media has reported that the commutation also eliminated the restitution owed. George Santos is free to say what he wants to say.
Did you read my comment, l didn’t say he couldn’t say what he wanted. I said commuting his sentences does not square with Trump tough on crime stance. ID theft is no small matter and that was just one of crimes he committed, he could have been moved to a less harsh prison like Ghielane Maxwell.

I believe you’re using your own definitions and interpretations of President Trump’s “law and order” and “tough on crime” positions. In his first term he signed the First Step Act, which was about sentencing reform and improving prison conditions, that hardly qualifies as “law and order” and “tough on crime.” However, President Trump has spoken about harsher sentences for murderers, rapists, and drug trafficers, mostly during the 2016 and 2024 campaigns, although I don’t believe harsher sentencing guidelines have been enacted for those crimes. If you’re considering his actions on the borders, sending the National Guard into some cities, and blowing up Venezuelan watercrafts as being “law and order” and “tough on crime,” then that would be more of stopping crime before it happens, not necessarily prosecuting more crimes and harsher sentencing.

Yes, you’re correct, George Santos could’ve been sent to another prison, but he still would’ve been kept in isolation until all death threats against him were no longer found to be credible and he was no longer deemed to be in danger. Again, American corporate media has reported that President Trump stated he didn’t care for the way George Santos was being treated in prison, apparently due to his being kept in isolation. At least George Santos wasn’t pardoned. I don’t believe George Santos appreciates the opportunity he’s been given or that he’ll be able to control himself, and he’ll more than likely find himself arrested and in prison again, plus he’s now got a target on his back and will be watched closely.
