Cowellian’s first.
Happy Friday.
“Eleven plus two” and “twelve plus one” both equal 13, yes. But they are both also anagrams of each other (exactly the same letters, rearranged).(!)
Well…. on November 10, 1775 the USMC was founded.
For their 250th anniversary many events have been planned.
I personally plan to watch all 150 episodes of Gomer Pyle USMC… that will probably take awhile… if anybody else wants to do the same this would be a good time to get started.
I think I’ve seen them all, but thanks for sharing…
Actually, the United States didn’t exist in 1775, so there wasn’t a USMC. It was the Continental Marines that were founded on November 10, 1775.
At the end of the American Revolution in 1783, both, the Marines and the Navy were demobilized. The US Marine Corps wasn’t re-established until July 11, 1798, and the
US Navy was re-established in 1794.
As Gomer would say, surprise, surprise, surprise, and golly shazam!
Well Dawg…
You can break that news to the Marines, because I’m not going to try to tell them the first Marines don’t count and they’ll have to wait another 23 years!
The American Navy was created by the Continental Congress on 13 October 1775. Fast forward to 1948, and President Truman proclaimed 27 October 1948 to be Navy Day. This festive holiday was celebrated every year, up until 1949.
Also in 1949, President Truman, and his Secretary of Defense, Louis Johnson, decided that since the United States of America had strategic bombers, we no longer needed a Navy or Marine Corps. As Secretary Johnson said, “There’s no reason for having a Navy and Marine Corps. General Bradley (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff), tells me that amphibious operations are a thing of the past. We’ll never have any more amphibious operations. That does away with the Marine Corps. And the Air Force can do anything the Navy can do, so that does away with the Navy.”
September 1950 was when Johnson and Truman were proven wrong. And so, I am very happy and proud to be celebrating the 250th birthdays of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps!
Wife bought an hp chromebook and it sucks.
My antivirus program Bitdefender Total Security does
no support chromebook.
.
Trying to navigate around is an absolute nightmare.
If I had my way it would be returned, and still might happen.
Will NEVER buy one for myself.
Yup, sending back to Amazon
I bought a Nimo laptop (apparently less exposure to china). A nice laptop, different size than all my others, it seems keyboard size may be different, so some frustrating typing going on (not that I am good at typing either)….I will say, I am happy with it.
I have always used my laptops with external keyboards and mice. That includes when I’m traveling or working on site somewhere. That has allowed me to keep using the keyboard/mouse I’m used to while also lowering the wear and tear on the laptop. I also often keep the laptop on a cookie cooling rack which allows for air circulation on the bottom
I’m tech savvy but technology has gone too far. I’m able to figure out tech issues at work without bothering the IT department, but it gets old. Whatever happened to being human and doing everything ourselves?
Looking over Reddit and found this, Concord’s video surveillance trailer.
