Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two key reparations bills for Black Californians – including one creating a new Bureau for Descendants of American Slavery – but vetoed five others, citing costs and legal risks.
The new bureau will operate under the state Civil Rights Department to support genealogy research, education, and legal outreach. Another approved bill allocates $6 million for CSU to study how to verify eligible descendants. Newsom rejected proposals to direct home loan funds to descendants, prioritize college admissions, and compensate victims of racially motivated land seizures. His vetoes referenced Proposition 209, which bars state programs from using race as a factor. Lawmakers in the California Legislative Black Caucus say they’ll revisit the vetoed measures next year, emphasizing that the effort to implement the state’s historic Reparations Task Force recommendations will continue.
There is no debate. California never was a slave state this is beyond ridiculous. Where does this end? Everyone has a claim to subjecation somewhere in their lineage all lands were colonized at one point. This will not get this idiot any votes on a national stage all one has to do is pull up any recent history with his slimey hands on it and instant deal breaker. The fecal footprint that that fool laughed at on a national stage during a debate. His endless slush fund of a high speed rail to nowhere. His homeless issue that has plagued him since his SF mayoral days & being related to Pelosi should be an automatic disqualification!

Because long ago, somebody did something wrong to somebody else that was awful. Therefore, we will punish you for their sins by making you pay for something that you didn’t do and had no control over.

While they are verifying Genealogy, I can verify that all of my White Ancestors from the slave states lived in extreme poverty and could not afford to own a Black Slave.
