DeSaulnier, Padilla And Schiff Question Administration Over Closure Of Local Taxpayer Assistance Center In Walnut Creek

Bay Area lawmakers are pushing back against the closure of the Walnut Creek Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC), citing concerns over reduced access to in-person IRS services. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA-10) and Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff sent a letter to the Acting IRS Commissioner opposing the Walnut Creek closure and any further shutdowns of TACs in the Bay Area. The Walnut Creek office was one of nine centers selected for closure under President Trump’s Executive Order 14222, aimed at government cost efficiency. While the IRS has said services and staffing will not be affected, the lawmakers questioned the agency’s decision-making and transparency. They requested details by November 10, including why the Walnut Creek center was chosen, what analyses were conducted, and whether additional closures, such as in Oakland or San Francisco, are being planned. TACs provide free, in-person help from trained professionals and are especially important for seniors and those without internet access.

Why was our DMV, social security office and Court for jury duty closed down???
It makes life very difficult, especially for seniors! Having to go to Richmond for Jury service is a joke.
Concord for a written test and no one knows where for social security issues..
BRING THEM BACK!!!!!!

Heather Farms remodel is a disaster and nowhere for teams to go to practice and play and wildlife abuse…
City council should all be fired!

The DMV in Walnut Creek closed because its lease for that location was not renewed. The property owner plans to redevelop the site.
The SS office is a federal decision..new temp offices in Concord.
But you can blame Heather Farms on the City of Walnut Creek.

My kids, who are in their late 40s, played year-round soccer on competitive teams when they were young, never at Heather Farms. I wish the Boatwright fields had been open then. They did play at Arbolado. Newhall Park has soccer fields. There are fields on Cowell by Adult Ed. I’m pretty sure there are other parks with fields the teams can use til they finish rejuvenating Heather Farms.

Suddenly they care about Walnut Creek?
They must want something.

Takes 3 politicians to write a letter. Impressive. What analyses were conducted by these three showing how critical this TAC was based on the number of residents showing up every week?

Closure of WC IRS purely political…. not because it wasn’t being used…. have you tried to talk to anybody there? The wait is longer than the SSA office.

hopefully nobody will be giving a press conference, so we do not have to see poorly executed theatrics from padilla, I expect schiff will say russia colluded with President Trump to close the office and mark will try to ensure people know he exists. I understand an IRS (tax collecting) office is like mecca to these 3.
