Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor, York Steak House, Mr. Steak, The Plank House, Red Barn, Doggie Diner, Picnic n’ Chicken, Bob’s Big Boy

The Doggie on the point of Telegraph and Broadway was my “place” when I worked in Oakland

Ooops with my forgot to add , there is a Doggie head alive and well on a used car lot in Silver SPrings, NV. I stop to get a picture of it in a wind storm for a former co-worker

I played in a house band at a Reuben’s Plank House in the late 1970s in the Seattle area. It was always packed every night and the cars in the parking lot were rockin’ as I left to go home. 🤣

Sweet Tomatoes, which was in Pleasant Hill.

First and foremost would be Mervyn’s. Then I’d pick Miller’s Outpost for the best selection
of Levi’s, followed by Radio Shack, Fry’s, Woolworth, Montgomery Ward, and Grand Auto.

CC Ole’s
Concord Rentals
Orchard Supply Hardware
4 corners Pizza
Long’s
Mimi’s
Fry’s Electronics
Radio Shack
Thriftys
Contra Cost speedway.

Fry’s in it’s heyday. It was a candy store for me but it sure went downhill before closing.

I loved going into Fry’s, although I knew that if I had to talk to an employee, I would be lied to. Nevertheless, I really liked being able to look at components side-by-side and reading the boxes.

Bring back 24 Hour Fitness. The one in Walnut Creek gets so packed that often times the parking lot is completely filled.

Toys R Us in Pleasant Hill. I really appreciated that you could view, hold, and evaluate toys in a way that you can’t via the internet. Grandkids love toys, and we love giving them. Aladdin Video at El Monte. I know it wasn’t a business, but every Christmas I miss the Christmas lights put up by that wonderful guy near Clayton Road.

To name a few…

• Suncoast Motion Picture Company
• Warner Bros. Studio Store
• KB Toys
• Electronics Boutique

Delta View Golf Course in Pittsburg and it’s restaurant (Zanadella’s?).
Red Barn
Capwell’s
Monkey Warts (Wards)
Velvet Turtle
Mac’s Old House in Antioch

I second Mervyn’s. Also El Charro and Mountain Jacks, both in Lafayette.

El Charro was not on tghe up and up. Theycan thank their employees..some family members for their demise.

Thank a developer who made an offer for the land the could not refuse.

While on Lafayette what about Freddie’s Pizza. Still the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Definitely was an Acalanes hang out

Agreed…best Pizza… and a great place after the HS football game and weekends…..

It sure was. Go Dons!

Loved me some Freddie’s back in the 1970s!

Mr. Pickwicks, formerly of Pleasant Hill and then Concord (the PH restaurant was better).

Hobby Town.

Sirloin & Brew Unlimited, Hungry Hunter, or Victoria Station (Vic Stuarts was named that so they would not have to replace all of the VS signage)

10

Longs Drugstore! CVS is the worst. Longs had everything.

Marie Callenders… Hungry Hunter and so many more

For fine dining, The Savoy at Boundary Oak in Walnut Creek; for casual dining, The Green Parrot hof brau at Sun Valley Mall; for arts/crafts, Beverly’s in Concord.

Con Fire station 12 in martinez

The Wicked Eye in San Ramon

And The Kat Patch in WC?

And Le Virage in Walnut Creek, the food was great.
Historical value too.

I forgot about Le Virage.
My sister played soccer with the owner’s (Lolec) daughter. My parents became regulars there.
Fun facts, according to Lolec: That location used to be the major crossroads in WC back in the horse and buggy days. Also, that building was originally a saloon with a very active cat house upstairs.

When my son was in middle school, they had to do some kind of career-oriented project. He worked a night in Le Virage’s kitchen and had a great time doing it. I was sorry to read of their closing.

Slow Sam’s Market

Simon’s Hardware
Morgan’s Machine & Marine

Loved both Simon Hardware and MMM.
My car went much faster after a trip to MMM!

Eames Hardware & Supply, Pleasant Hill

Totally Agree, … that place was great!

Eames was a great hardware store!
So sad they closed.

Bed Bath and Beyond

Same Here!

Namaste – the Indian restaurant in the Park N Shop. That place was So good, the family that ran it were lovely people, and the prices were reasonable.

Diablo Foods in Concord, … there were 2 locations.

One final business to name, if anybody is still reading this old thread…

Lupois at the corner of YV and Civic in WC. Best crab ever.

There are a lot of great selections here, but since no one else has mentioned it, I’ll nominate Anna Miller’s. One of my favorite lunches was their chicken pot pie/spinach salad combo, followed by a piece of their strawberry pie.

And speaking of pies, Baker’s Square candy cane pie was a Christmas favorite in our house.

Malibu Grand Prix

Drakes Bay Oyster Company

Leatherby’s, Hungry Hunter & Marie Calendars!
