Former Correctional Sergeant From Martinez Charged With Multiple Child Sex Crimes

A 44-year-old Martinez man has been charged with multiple felony counts related to alleged lewd acts involving two minors. Prosecutors say William Daniel Eberly faces an eleven-count complaint, including charges of forcible lewd acts on a child under 14 and lewd acts on a child aged 14 or 15. The two victims, identified in court documents as Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2, will remain anonymous to protect their identities. The alleged crimes occurred between November 2020 and December 2024 in Contra Costa County. At the time of his arrest, Eberly was employed as a correctional sergeant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Eberly pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment. His bail was set at $1,025,000, and the court issued two criminal protective orders at the request of the District Attorney’s Office. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 3 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 22 at the A.F. Bray Courthouse in Martinez. District Attorney Diana Becton commended the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office for its investigation and reaffirmed her office’s commitment to seeking justice for the victims and their families.
