A popular Japanese grocery chain is moving into one of downtown Pleasant Hill’s most recognizable vacant spaces. Osaka Marketplace has announced plans to open a new 42,000-square-foot store inside the former Orchard Supply Hardware building at 155 Crescent Plaza. The Pleasant Hill location will mirror Osaka’s Fremont store, featuring Japanese groceries, fresh seafood, sushi, bento boxes, and a food-court-style dining area with ramen and quick-serve dishes. The project transforms what was once a hardware store into a cultural and culinary destination for East Bay shoppers. Construction is underway, with the opening expected next year.

Wish we can bring something like this to the old Kmart in concord. But it seems like Lucky has some kind of stronghold not allowing any retailers to sell groceries.
Perhaps the owner of of the property could sell off the Kmart section and then the new buyer would not be under the contract issues that Lucky uses to keep the options bottled up. Just a thought.
Conc,

It’s pretty standard for leases in the grocery industry, it’s not “some kind of stronghold not allowing any retailers to sell groceries.” If you don’t like it you should be placing blame on the property owner for allowing it into the lease, not Lucky.
And so it begins…there goes the neighborhood.
I don’t wish to be combative or argumentive – I would genuinely like to know what you mean or what your objection is.
The one line says enough and to the point.
Looking forward to it and support anything moving into that space.
Great to have a new Japanese market moving to the neighborhood! A huge need for the area.
A huge need?
Fresh Octopus?
I tried octopus once, it was too chewy, like chewing on rubber. I couldn’t chew it enough to swallow it, so I gave the rest to the dog. The dog had a hard time chewing it too, he eventually gave up and spit it out. Another time I tried baby octopus, they were about the size of a quarter.
I spit that one out too, it had a nasty taste and texture.
I found baby Octopus to be chewy and delicious with steamed rice….They also made good Rock Fish/Lingcod bait.
Octopus needs to be boiled or sauteed until it’s tender, then finished on the grill or in the oven…. otherwise it’s too tough. It’s wonderful when properly prepared.
Ever cook pork ribs or make a stew?
Different strokes for different folks, that’s what makes the world go ’round.
I hope they do better than OSH and Albertsons did, but unfortunately it’s not a good location and a poorly designed shopping center for this particular location.
The Ross Dress for Less is in the same shopping center and seems to be doing fine. That Albertsons closed after the merger with Safeway which already has two stores in the area. Orchard Supply Hardware collapsed which resulted in all of their stores closing in 2018.

The puzzle to me is why the owners of shopping malls and other commercial buildings allow their buildings to remain vacant for years.
My family of four traveled in Japan for a month last year (Tokyo, Hakone / Gora, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara). We are looking forward to this store being so close to home!
I’m looking forward to this shop.
