The Water Cooler – Deepfake Scams – Do You Trust Your Eyes & Ears Online/On The Phone Anymore?

QUESTION: With deepfake scams on the rise, do you trust your eyes and ears online/on the phone anymore?

**A deepfake scam is a type of fraud where scammers use AI to create fake audio or video of a person to deceive victims. These scams often impersonate a person’s boss, a family member, or a public figure to trick them into sending money or revealing sensitive information**

I’m a natural skeptic, I don’t fully trust anyone until they have earned my trust. My motto
has always been: Don’t believe everything you hear, and only half of what you see.
Since the introduction of AI it’s been modified to: Don’t believe everything you see, and
nothing that you hear or read, until all the facts are available. This attitude allows me to
process information with critical thought before making a judgment or conclusion.
Rumors, lies, and exaggerations are a common practice, especially among talk shows, politicians and the media, and only a fool will take what they read, see, and hear at face
value without understanding the full story.

People say believe half of what you see
Some or none of what you hear
But I can’t help but be confused
If it’s true please tell me dear
Do you plan to let me go
For the other guy you loved before?

Don’t you know I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine,
I heard it through the grapevine
And I’m just about to lose my mind
Honey, honey, yeah

No worriers on the scams.
No reason to send money or revealing sensitive information to anyone.
We have a such a small circle of Family & Friend now-a-days.

No …. that skepticism or even distrust started long ago – somebody always wants your money.

Phone is not a problem, online, skepticism is always good.
Impersonating bosses never would have worked given my
expected level of sarcasm, given my super seniority.
.
Got a survey other day in mail, claiming I was a veteran.
Included was cover letter supposedly from kaiser.
Included was an already filled out medical release of
information. First impression was call FBI.
.
Form was already filled out, would give Florida outfit
access to ALL my medical information.
Information would be released to an
outfit in Missouri. Enclosed form had Department of
Veteran Affairs complete with Form Number.
.
Called kaiser, turns out it is “legit”. What bothers me greatly
is I am NOT a veteran. Have to wonder if people wanting
medical data are fishing for medical records from kaiser patients
who are not veterans. Other problem is why kaiser would codone
such an invasive request for medical record data.
.
Form has boxes already checked on release form,
Patient medical records – ALL DATES
List of all medications – ALL DATES
In patient discharge notes – ALL DATES
There’s more but you get the general idea.
Release is good for a period of seven years.
.
This is a medical release of information,
I would absolutely NEVER sign.
.
Any release of my medical data is limited to narrowly specific
information and release is only valid for a period of 12 days.

With all due respect to Kaiser, if you’re not a veteran I don’t think it’s legit at all. Just because Kaiser told you it’s legit doesn’t mean it is. They can tell you anything to get you off the phone. And not employees know what they’re doing. I think its phony, but I could be wrong. Just my healthy skepticism.

Very little online that isn’t BS or AI especially Facecrap.
