Hope not but according to what I’ve read over the years we should unfortunately and despite warnings from scientists the feds and state have not done nearly enough or quickly enough to make much of a difference to prepare (water, power, roads, sewers, etc._
A 7.0+ earthquake does not care what the government has done to prepare. Something that big will destroy almost everything.
The only way to properly prepare is to be somewhere else when it hits.
Believe you are correct about water, power, roads, sewers, …. etc. is not up to parr. People need to ready them-selves for the lack of. We are set up to get by for a month, … and hope the house doesn’t fall down.
Think there is a possibility another big one in my lifetime.

I hope not, the San Francisco 1906 earthquake was 7.9 and the shaking lasted about 60 seconds. But San Francisco was a lot smaller then, and the tallest building was 22 stories,
and is still standing today. A lot of the damage was not caused by the shaking but caused
by the fires that broke out when the gas lines broke, and when the water mains broke, they couldn’t put the fires out. Everybody headed west to the beach, where the Army set up tents
as temporary housing. In 1906 the beach extended up to 19th Ave, and was all sand, and
sand dunes.

Been in a 6.6 in 1971 Los Angeles. Remember Dad yelling get in the doorway before the house partially collapsed. No matter how you prepare if it’s big enough your probably gonna get hurt or die.
A 7.0+ is coming probably in next 1000 years in baybarea.

We already did back in 89, Loma Puerta was 6.9 and that shook the water out of our builtin pool…
At least California builds with the expectations of earthquakes. The last time the New Madrid fault went, it rang church bells in Boston, made the Mississippi River run backwards, and created Reelfoot Lake. When it goes again, a lot of people will not survive.

Definitely maybe, or definitely many not.

I asked one of my Native American Injun friends about a 7.0 quake ever happening and he went to a private side of his kotcha to “ask his ancestors”…..but then his little black Cairn Terrier pulled back the deerskin separating the rooms and to my complete chagrin I saw my trusted redskin friend consulting a Magic 8 Ball! I think maybe all the hype about his people may be just alot of BS… but the ball said “all signs point to YES” so I’m buying quake insurance… just in case.

Some geologists worry more about the shelf that extends west from I-5 might break off and fall into the ocean. This has occurred in other places in the world centuries ago. At one time there was no English channel and one could walk from France to England. Mother earth does what she wants. Now doesn’t that sound like fun? 🙂
At one time, one could walk from Marin County to Contra Costa County, and Angel Island was
a mountain. During the Ice Age, the sea level was much lower. As the ice melted, sea levels
rose, and rivers were formed, flooding the area known as the San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. There was no entrance to the SF Bay at the Golden Gate, until rivers that no longer exist, cut the opening which is now the Golden Gate strait.

What is “our lifetime”?
Some of us have 20-30 years left, others have 50 or more.
I think predicting earthquakes is like a crapshoot.
As is life in general.

Or “Loma Prieta”
