Contra Costa County Urges Undocumented Immigrants To Enroll In Medi-Cal Before Jan. 1 Cutoff

The following is from Contra Costa County:

Contra Costa County strongly encourages adult undocumented residents without health insurance to enroll in Medi-Cal this year while they are still eligible. Starting Jan. 1, people ages 19 and older with what the state defines as unsatisfactory immigration status (UIS) – a category that includes undocumented residents and others who do not meet federal eligibility criteria – will no longer be able to enroll in full-scope Medi-Cal benefits, including seniors. The change in eligibility is the result of state budget cuts.

“We want undocumented members of our community to know they need to act quickly and sign up for Medi-Cal before it’s too late,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Candace Andersen. “Enrolling now will ensure they’re covered when the rules change.” State residents with UIS status who are already enrolled in Medi-Cal before Jan. 1, 2026, will be able to keep and renew most of their benefits, though adults 19 and older will lose dental coverage beginning in July 2026. “Under the new rules starting on January 1, 2026, it is very important for Medi-Cal recipients who meet the definition of UIS, to stay in contact with the county and check their mail for any notices or renewal forms. One good way to stay in touch is to create an account in BenefitsCal,” said Marla Stuart, Director of Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD). “Current UIS Medi-Cal recipients who do not complete a renewal on time will lose their Medi-Cal full coverage and will only be eligible for emergency services when they reapply.” After the new rules take effect, immigration status will not affect Medi-Cal coverage for children under 19 and pregnant women and their infants. Adults 19 and older who are classified as UIS will still be able to receive Emergency Medi-Cal, which covers emergency medical treatment.

Why in the world would the county officials urge this? There should never be a time that an illegal is receiving any benefits whatsoever in our city/county. Going by this logic I should jump off the hamster wheel so I get the freebies my hard work has provided. UNACCEPTABLE!!! The protest against Trump attendees should be spending their copious amounts of idle time in front of the elected leaders houses enabling this idiocy instead of distracting drivers going about their day…

Mean while I have to pay $3,600 a month for my family of three. Maybe I should be UIS, aka Undocumented, aka Illegal Alien. It would save me a lot of money!

In California it pays to be a criminal.

Board of STUPIDVISORS recommend this! This is exactly what’s wrong with California and the rest of the US thinking this way.

When I was in the Marine Corps, we were told the enemy is any country, individual, or group
of individuals engaged in hostilities against the United States. Illegal invaders are exhibiting hostilities when they riot, shoot at the police, and ram their cars into police cars.
Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is the definition of treason.

One of the truest and best Claycord posts, ever.

Meanwhile Veterans and citizen homeless must scramble for survival. The Board of Supervisors priorities are clearly skewed.

No, they aren’t There are so many resources for both groups. Too much, really. If they are not getting help, it is because they don’t want to follow the rules. I have worked with BOTH populations and am intimately aware of how much money is spent on these populations. But obviously we should not be spending ANY money on illegals. I was also aware, unlike seemingly most other people, that illegals have been getting free healthcare on Medi-cal for YEARS because I treated them at the county level and they all had Medi-cal. I could not keep working there in good conscience.

Unlike federal Medicaid which requires proof of lawful presence, California’s state-funded Medi-Cal expansions rely on residency. And California taxpayers end up paying for it. Educated taxpayers are aware of this.

Has everyone overlooked the obvious here?
Signing up now will provide a data base of undocumented aliens complete with full names, addresses, etc. that ICE can use to pick them up and deport them.
Go ahead & sign up amigos….. adios!

Great idea the only problem is that Contra Costa County would and will never release said list to the feds. I see able bodied men every day living under the over pass on Concord Ave near the 242 on ramp bathing in the water processing plant runoff into the creek, trash spewed everywhere in the open area, inviduals crapping on business doorfronts caught on camera, constantly being broken into. All of this has been enabled by those we elected into office so I highly doubt that a list that could be used for good will be used to roundup and deport those that shouldn’t be here…

See muchachos….. it’s OK!
Sign up, have no fear.
Once secret information makes it’s way onto a computer it can never be hacked or leaked. Never….. and we like paying your way!

Yes, please proceed to your local ICE facility to pick up the paperwork. We will be glad to help.

But remember, these are the same but balloons that tell us that no taxpayer money is going to healthcare for illegal immigrants into this country.

And we are, the people are OK with our taxpayer money being used to fund criminals, those that have entered into this country are criminals if they failed to follow the law. End of story.

democrats want illegals to stick around for 2030 Census.
A way to steal (gain) more seats in congress.
.
Census should NOT COUNT illegals.
If that happens democrats will turn against illegals in a heartbeat.

Undocumented immigrants? do you mean, illegal aliens, how they are defined in law? Why do these people have such a hard time looking out for the legal citizens of this country, tossing us aside for illegal aliens?

Because they hate you.
They hate anyone who doesn’t need them.
You can’t control people who don’t need you.
Their business model relies on the downtrodden.

Make a list of these things (and these people). Read the list, this Claycord piece, and some comments aloud to your family, your friends, your children. Remember them on election days.
Career Politicians, are not “civic minded Samaritans.” They are abusers-of-power.

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors consists of five members: John Gioia (District 1), Candace Andersen (District 2), Diane Burgis (District 3), Ken Carlson (District 4), and Shanelle Scales-Preston (District 5). Candace Andersen is the current Chair and Diane Burgis is the current Vice Chair.

  • District 1: John Gioia
  • District 2: Candace Andersen (Chair)
  • District 3: Diane Burgis (Vice Chair)
  • District 4: Ken Carlson
  • District 5: Shanelle Scales-Preston

Careful UIS people! This is a trap, once you sign up ICE will be at your door. It’s a trap, don’t do it, don’t sign up / take the health services provided by US citizen taxpayers. Watch out for ICE, self deport immediately!

UIS is short for what illegals? Standing up for criminals and crapping on your fellow hardworking citizen is a bad look. Your virtue signal is not even laughable any longer WTF is wrong with you? Come into our country legally or don’t come at all!

@ bddp, maybe you should re-read WC—Creeker’s post in context.

How does this help us tax paying citizen.
We need to remember this when they come up for re-election.

But I thought the Democrat politicians kept repeating the same lie that illegal aliens can not qualify for government assistence.

By being in this state a person co tributes to sales 5ax and payroll taxes even if they are undocumented, so they make their contributions. The agricultural sector in this state relies on migrant workers and will collapse without rhem.

• Major fruit and vegetable crops rely on immigrant labor for **70%–80%** of peak-season work.
• Dairy operations in the Central Valley use immigrant labor for **50%–60%** of year-round jobs.
• Vineyards and specialty crops often fall in the **60%–75%** range depending on the region.

This is not an invasion, it is the reality of the state’s economy. Educated people understand that the best way to cut cost on the Healthcare system is for people to have insurance and universal Healthcare is the best way to make sure everyone is covered.
Don’t fall for scarcity tactics, stop protecting billionaires who would not be billionaires without the working class.
