I’ve got a family member who absorbs way too much Rachel Maddow so I will destroy her occasionally. But I never bring anything up political. For the most part, people’s minds are made up.

If you are going to talk politics and religion on Thanksgiving night and fight, please go live! And provide the link here! My popcorn is ready…

We make it a rule no matter what the occasion, we go to other people’s houses that way we can leave if/when things get nasty. But our whole extended family is pro Trump and everything he and his administration is doing and none of us are religious so usually no worries. Oh and none of us Covid SCAMdemic vaxed either. Can’t ask for better fam than that.
Have been occasions. They never win, facts negate propaganda. . Do refrain from discussing politics with my lovely Wife.

I don’t. It would end poorly …. Got folks in my family on both sides of the fence. Some extreme and some in the middle, all are biased based on personal life experiences.
Thanksgiving in a time of reflecting what we are thankful for, so they is what we discuss. We gather with family, extended family and friends and just relax and enjoy the company and food.

Nope. I am gay, married, and have a child who is autistic. My Dad is a very conservative, closed-minded individual. He is a great Dad, and I love him, but our politics do not align. I respectfully change the subject when politics come up. Same thing with my Mom, but she is a racist alcoholic so I tend to just avoid her altogether.

Nope, I come from a large and loving Sicilian family, and we were taught to love and respect each other. I learned from an early age how important it is to love, honor, and cherish my
family because someday they will be gone. No matter what our differences, the love will
always be.

I never bring up politics. And I can take only so much when people continually yap their mouths and spew uninformed misinformation and badmouth my views and opinions. The ONE time I was sick of it after trying to redirect my sister and underscore no political talk (and continually act like the bigger person despite being the youngest), she blew up. When I finally hand enough of tip toeing around her to “keep the peace,” due to her continually volatile nature, she had a tantrum so big that she started flipping out around my kids and spewing hate (directed at me) at them. I almost called the cops! I was finally done with her and her liberal ideals in that moment. She was summarily dressed down and told to go f off, and I have not spoken to her in about 5 years.

Generally no, since we talk about it when it is not Thanksgiving…going by friends’ houses, I will not bring up the subject, but if somebody tries to goad an argument from me, well, it is not that hard. Most times, they are citing that sager jon liebowitz, errr, stewart

Our family has shifted our (generally) shared political view over the past ten years. Though we are mostly aligned with each other’s views, we declare a “no politics” Thanksgiving, mainly to escape the negativity swirling around our daily lives. No need for anyone to do the “cousin walk”. (google it).
