Trump is after Madero big time over drugs – but pardons the president of Columbia sentenced for drug affiliations? ….and walking away from Ukraine giving it to Putin? …. definitely not what I expected
When threatening to ‘take ’em to the woodshed’ doesn’t convince them to get their act together… you take them to the woodshed.
Trump is doing what needs to be done. I don’t like Putin or his hard-line politics. But I dislike just about everything I’ve learned about the current Ukraine and especially Zelenskyy.
Ukraine was one of those nations much like the Islamic Middle East is now. …constantly at war within. Divided Ethnically into at least three “governments”, and warring among themselves, each trying to take control of the whole country. War is all they had known for centuries — until the USSR, in essence, took them all to the woodshed.
As for Crimea. I do not blame Putin at all for wanting it back. The people of Crimea are roughly 75% ethnically Russian. Whether Crimea is happy or not? Big shrug! Who knows?

Extra judicial killings violate the constitution and international law. At least one boat was known to be only fishermen. Our founders said it is better that 10 guilty men go free than for one innocent man go to prison. An admiral resigned over this policy. To Trump it is just a show. “Look at me. I’m tough.”
If the people of Crimea and Ukraine want to be part of Russia, they can vote on it. Putin’s invasion gives them no choice. That is some sad rationalization.

I’d also like to see a link to the “only fishermen” story…. I’m curious why fishermen need high speed boats and what king of gear they had in all the cargo they were carrying… please post your source so we can read it, I can’t find it online.

In the US, you get a trial before you’re sentenced to death. In some states, drug offenses are not even punishable by death.
And yet Trump wants carte blanche to kill suspected criminals in other countries?
What exactly is the logic here? If a Venezuelan lost his life savings in a Palo Alto based cyber-attack would they be justified coming here and murdering people?

Blame Congress!!! Congress has had 24 years to amend or repeal the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which the Trump Administration has cited as giving it the authority to take action against Venezuelan watercraft vessels believed to be engaged in drug trafficking. This is why President Trump named foreign drug cartels as terrorists organizations. The reason the AUMF has been cited as giving the Trump Administration the authority to take action is due to the way President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and President Donald Trump have interpreted the AUMF. The closest comparison to the destruction of these watercraft vessels from Venezuela would be the destruction of watercraft vessels from Somalia being used by pirates. Multiple administration’s have used the AUMF to take action against Somali pirates.
Another “War on Drugs”? Been there, done that. Didn’t work.
But you’re right – Trump is making similar decisions as Bush and Biden. At this point, he might as well be Donald Bush.

I believe U.S. actions in regards to Venezuela has less to do with drugs and more to do with oil, gold and other precious metals and gems, and rare earth minerals (which really aren’t all that rare). It’s about regime change, to put a pro U.S. leader in place, who’ll allow U.S. oil and mining corporations to extract these resources. The same is likely true for the neighboring countries of Columbia and Guyana. While Venezuelan drugs may be of great concern to President Trump, it’s also likely being used as a pretext. It’s that old saying, “America, mind your own business, but intervene in your interests.”
Agree. And it is these flimsy pretexts that keep us in perpetual war. It creates anti-American sentiment, poverty and terrorism. I voted for Trump to keep us out of wars. But so far, it has business as usual.
Yeah all the peace deals and cease fires Trump was responsible for … “business as usual”.

I should’ve also added that if Venezuela was only about drugs, then we would’ve already bombed and/or sent missiles to sites in Mexico, Columbia, and China, as those countries are the primary sources for illegal drugs in the U.S. A large portion of the drugs that come from Venezuela don’t actually originate there, but are trafficked through Venezuela to the U.S. and Europe.
