About 10 years ago, seated for a murder trial. I was really looking forward to the 2-3 weeks, cleared it with work, made other necessary arrangements. Then the jerk went and plead guilty the night before the trial was to start.

1979 … murder trial in Martinez old courthouse. I’m too old now!

I was called to serve on the case against the elementary teacher from Mt. Diablo school district that was a pedo and convicted in 2014. They excused me from the jury because I had 2 elementary aged children in the school district at that time!

I had jury duty last summer. I had to go in twice but got rejected for service pretty quickly because I answered their questions honestly… which did not make the Judge, prosecutor or defense attorney very happy.
I had to remind them they were insisting on honest answers from me… “I can give you the answers you want to hear, but I’d be lying”
It was not a case I could be impartial about.

,,, had a similar experience

Me too, the judge said he didn’t care for my attitude, and I answered, “oh well.”

I’ve been through one of those too. My very first call in. I was very young and almost panicked…until we were all advised on how to respond to get excused.

I wasn’t dodging my civic duty.
I just answered honestly and I’m not a very PC fellow.
I have served on a jury before.

June 2020, during Covid. Was sent to a courtroom and jury pool was spread out across courtroom. Was cut loose thank goodness (I work for a law firm).

Never sat on a jury but I get jury duty every year.

It seems I get called two or three times in a row for 2-3 years, then nothing for a decade. Most always, the call-check-in on the night before trial results in not having to go.
I’ve sat and waited for two and three days on two juries in Martinez, while they got their schtuff together, and called it off. Have actually served all the way through the “Not Guilty” verdict only once. Another time after sitting through first day’s arguments, they settled. Problem was, they didn’t notify jury until we had all arrived the next day. Martinez is ridiculous for parking. That trial, both days, I had to park in neighborhood streets way the hell and back up the hill…practically out of town…and walk slippin’ and slidin’ in my high heals….!!! LOLOLOLOL.
A couple years ago they called me for Pittsburg court. I begged off. They said OK.
A couple months ago they called me for El Cerrito for goodness sake! I told them that distance was ridiculous (considering the higher population they could draw from on that side of the hills). They said OK.
I think I’m done trying to do my duty.

Was called for Jury duty in Pittsburg 4 months back. Perp got cold feet and chickened out just before jury selection began. Good for another year!

Last year. I was potential jurist #2 on the first day and really wanted to NOT become jurist #2. I could tell from the judge’s instructions and attorney’s questions that this was a he-said, she-said case where the accused had a car accident, ran, and denied that he caused the accident. It seemed that there were no or few witnesses.
We were excused for the day, returning on the next. I made sure to wear a Dan Bongino shirt. We were all asked if someone is accused and its their word verses the cop’s word, who do you believe? Everyone else said believe the accused, not guilty. I said a tie goes to the police. I was the first jurist excused.

Decades back had to show up, was questioned by Judge.
Evidently made an impression, haven’t been called since.

About three years ago.
However I never get chosen. The defense lawyer sees a Caucasian in a business suit with a briefcase and its adios toot sweet.
Perhaps it would be different if the defendant was a Caucasian in a business suit with a briefcase.

Talked my way out of it 3 times, last time was in S.F. in Federal Court Room…now over the age of 70 and have a “Get Out of Jury Duty Free” card!

Yes, served end May to early July this year. Murder trial

Was that for a drive by shooting?
Did they find him guilty?
